Preston Squire
Heard second hand that Preston Squire from Layton high school is telling people utah state is offering him today. He supposedly has an offer from Va Tech. I’ve seen him play multiple times. He is 6’11, 205. Beautiful stroke. Fairly athletic, but far from dominant at the high school level. Anyone else heard anything like this?

Re: Preston Squire
Looking at his film he looks like a PF, not a center. Seems to have a decent touch from outside.

He started out at Wasatch academy. Went to Layton junior and senior year.

Re: Preston Squire
Why did we not recruit the Potter kid from Layton? He seems like the one we should have gone after. He was one of the highest scorers in the state - and against 6A competition.

Re: Preston Squire
Potter was a MUCH better high school player. Squire may have more upside, key word being “May”. Potential can be a real curse.

Re: Preston Squire
I refed him this year and he is a pretty good player. Layton had another kid that was good also. I did their game at Weber and it was an up and down three point and fast break dunk contest.

Re: Preston Squire
hmm.....this makes me wonder if Curtis Condie is in fact going to be one of the new assistants. He checks all the boxes:
- Aggie Alum
- Familiar with Utah and nuances that come with it
- ties to Preston Squire which would explain this potential offer

Reading between the lines of the vague things that insiders have said I am pretty sure that the 2 known assistants will be Dixon and Condie.

Re: Preston Squire
Layton had more talent than anyone in the state. Horrible coaching in my opinion. The Potter kid was unstoppable in the low post, but fell in love with the 3 point shot. Potter was serviceable from the 3 but is not a pure shooter. Squire is a pure shooter.

At least we heard some news about recruiting so everyone should be super thrilled about that.

Re: Preston Squire
Actually after watching some film I think he’s got some potential. Moves well, see’s the floor and passes well, nice touch both inside and out, can play above the rim some, and high release on his shots. He definitely plays away from the basket but will cut and drive to the rim. Add 30 lbs onto his frame and he could be dangerous stretch 4. I’ll probably get flack for this but I actually think Squire has more upside than Potter (the one we have already signed) based on the limited film I’ve seen of both. Reminds me a bit of Liam.

Re: Preston Squire
I don’t have anything against this kid, but we should be prioritizing impact transfers unless we have struck out and are giving up.
Like can we get some good news about coaches or starter-level transfers?
Sorry if you’ve missed my posts, I had to take a deposition this morning so had to work.

Got to be honest, not sure I understand the interest in Squire if he's still got a mission to serve and we're now in the age of freshmen being liabilities anyways.

Re: Preston Squire
I stand corrected. From what I understand, you may see more emphasis placed on the mission program. I believe we are considering offering Preston.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 14th, 2021, 2:50 pmI really hope this is a preferred walk-on offer.FeartheFro wrote: ↑April 14th, 2021, 12:32 pmHeard second hand that Preston Squire from Layton high school is telling people utah state is offering him today.
