I will say this
We have Ashworth, Bean, Dorius, Miller, and etc, and they are good players. We have Potter coming in who is in the top 15 all-time 247sports recruit, and we will have more players coming in.

Who is Potter? Where did he play High School ball? Guess I have been out of the loop! Either that or my memory is going.
We need to get some JC guys. Ladell always had a mix of JC guys and so did Stew! Rod had a lot of JC guys. One thing I miss about Rod’s guys, they could shoot. No defense but we shot the ball well.

I really liked what we got out of Dorius as a walk-on, but man, it kinda stinks Smith gave him a scholarship right before bailing. I would rather the new coach have decided whether he wanted to give that scholarship to Trevin or someone else.
This isn’t to say Trevin didn’t earn the scholarship.

Dorius is going to be in year 3, and he really improved from year 1 to year 2. 7 footers don't grow on trees, and I am excited to see year 3 of Dorius.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 6:09 pmI really liked what we got out of Dorius as a walk-on, but man, it kinda stinks Smith gave him a scholarship right before bailing. Re: I will say this
Dorious has never had a legitimate chance at starting and has not been given the development focus or opportunities in practice. This is as expected because we had Queta sitting in the starting lineup for the last 3 years. I am curious to see his improvement this year as well given more time to play a real role on the team.SLB wrote:Dorius is going to be in year 3, and he really improved from year 1 to year 2. 7 footers don't grow on trees, and I am excited to see year 3 of Dorius.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 6:09 pmI really liked what we got out of Dorius as a walk-on, but man, it kinda stinks Smith gave him a scholarship right before bailing. Re: I will say this
You earn the right to start-- you don't get a "chance" to start. That is only in Junior Jazz. Dorius can do some nice things. But he's not getting any more athletic or any more saavy with the ball in his hands. We've seen what he can contribute, and its 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there. We need somebody who, when the ball is actually thrown to him, can turn and make an athletic move to the hoop. That player may or may not exist on our roster.

Re: I will say this
That's a roster issue, not a Dorius issue. Why do we blame him as a player for being behind the best Center in the Mountain West?AggiesForever wrote: ↑April 10th, 2021, 4:00 pmYou earn the right to start-- you don't get a "chance" to start. Re: I will say this
Trevin never had a shot starting over Neemias. That I agree with. But to say he was not given an opportunity to develop in practice would be doing the former coaching staff a great disservice. It's not like they stuck him and Szymon in the corner while Neemias got all the work.scotlandog wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 6:41 pmDorious has never had a legitimate chance at starting and has not been given the development focus or opportunities in practice. Re: I will say this
You've been spoiled by Queta. Then the way the game is played now, we no longer need a guy that can score with his back to the basket out of the post. We need a physical defender and rebounder, which he is. The only thing that I don't like about Dorius is that he is not athletic. This is going to be a big problem because he can't be used in the pick and roll or pick and pop.AggiesForever wrote: ↑April 10th, 2021, 4:00 pmYou earn the right to start-- you don't get a "chance" to start. Re: I will say this
Trevin had good moments on defense, but also got beat and fouled a lot. He is also a bit of a black hole on offense unless he is open for a dunk or putback.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑April 11th, 2021, 9:00 amYou've been spoiled by Queta. He is good for some rebounding and powerful dunks and could maybe grow into a very solid MW backup. But I think we are in trouble if he is our starting 5, IMO.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think he played much down the stretch of the season. I am surprised he got a scholarship, and I thought the story was he was on academic scholarship, his family was loaded, and he didn’t need one.

Re: I will say this
Depends on who the other four guys are. We will obviously not be running an offense built inside out like we did with Queta, but most teams don’t have him.
A big presence in the key can be enough with four other guys who are more dynamic.
Trust the Coach to figure out how to make it work with the guys we have once the roster shuffling is done.

Re: I will say this
You can scratch Miller off that list as I’ve been told he will medically retire due to his back. Maybe that’s why Shulga returned?

How often do you recall Queta setting a pick and spinning to pop a long-range shot? Or setting a pick and diving to the basket, receiving a high pass at the rim? Or diving and receiving a split-the-D low pass and finishing?AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑April 11th, 2021, 9:00 am...[Dorius] can't be used in the pick and roll or pick and pop.

He wouldn't be the first player who looks great in practice but struggles in games, except for an occassional decent game against weak competition, to be forced to medically retire.

The Brock Miller slander is never going to make any sense, and I should probably just give up. Brock suffered from being the only guy in the starting five that could hit a shot, so it somehow became notable when he missed.

Bummer. I didn’t want it to end this way for him. Brock is a genuine good guy who bleeds Aggie Blue and poured his heart into the program. Wish him the best. He’ll do great at whatever he decides to pursue.

Re: I will say this
Good point. There's no reason that the coach's shouldn't have run that play other than the fact that Rollie couldn't consistently knock down the three of they ran it. The only other player that could run that play was Ashworth but he was always struggling for minutes. It's not just about Queta. You gotta have a coach that will run it and you have to have the guard who can run it.brownjeans wrote: ↑April 11th, 2021, 3:16 pmHow often do you recall Queta setting a pick and spinning to pop a long-range shot? P.S. brownjeans, how many tournament games did you watch? I watched all the upsets and there wasn't one of those teams who didn't have the guard play to run it.

WRONG Brock is fine and will be in the line up next year. Talked with him and is taking his time with his back but will be back and ready to go. Great player Great Guy and doesn’t deserve any of the slander he gets
