Start thinking point guard.........
Is the point guard you are referring to getting closer to committing to USU?

I am not aware of a timetable.

Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but he's not following any of the USU coaching staff on Twitter. He is, however, following some staff from both Oregon State and Western Kentucky.
Aaron Cook just got into the transfer portal. Oregon State is too crowded at guard to make sense.

I think that must be someone on this Board judging by other tweets.

Let’s be clear — aggies22 hasn’t said Aaron Cook is coming, just that we’ve contacted him, and that we are looking at filling the last spot with a PG.

Cook being a St Louis kid makes Western Kentucky some sense if he wants to be closer to home.

I think we're making a bit too much out of Aaron Cook. How much of the excitement is because he was at Gonzaga? I mean, so was Jesse Wade and we see how that has ended up.

A 5-year player that has career averages of 7.3ppg, 2.3apg, 1.8rpg and shoots .342 3pt% and .682 FT%. ?

Blind stats alone, I'm not sure any one of us would be jumping up and down about adding that to our roster. I do think he adds some much needed athleticism to our backcourt and is probably a decent single year stop gap at PG but we are still going to need to focus on this spot again after next season if he proves to be the last addition to the roster.

I do like the idea of depth at the point guard (primary ball handler) position. Someone that won't turn the ball over, can get to the rim, can facilitate the offense, and can hit the three at a respectable success rate is very much needed here.

Having said that - have we given up on Ashworth? Are we looking to recruit over him? Or are we recruiting his backup?

If you aren't trying to recruit over your starters, you might as well quit now.

I agree although after watching some highlights dude has crazy potential. He’s got some major hops and can throw down big dunks for a small guard as well. I think he would do really good in the MW imo.

Stats can be misleading. He's only started 3 of those 5 years. As a soph 9.8 ppg. As a jr 10.5. As a senior 15 before he broke his hand after 6 games. At Gonzaga he played behind Suggs who's the highest ranked recruit ever to sign with Gonzaga, 5th in ESPN's top 100, and Nembhard who was ranked a 5 star out of hs and who started every game at Florida in his 2 years there. Cook's a good player, and he may have 2 years left because of the broken hand. Not sure on that though.

Understood, but his best stats were in the 6 game shortened season so they probably aren't representative of what would have happened over the course of an entire year. There isn't any single season in his career that is eye popping but I'm not saying I would not like him to be an Aggie, I just think a portion of the hype is associated with Gonzaga after his name.

Well, we can hope for Cook, but overall if we get him or a different PG who can lead this team I’ll be happy. I just don’t want to be nervous every time a team gives us the full court press and worry that our back handler will turn it over😀

Also I love seeing Bean welcoming teammates as they’ve committed, real leadership skills and shows how valuable he will be. A legend.

Nuga commits to UNLV.

Add Nuga to this list & UNLV is another team landing some great transfers. (Though they did lose David Jenkins & Bryce Hamilton, not sure why they're not shown on here) https://247sports.com/college/unlv/Seas ... ferPortal/

He's an excellent off the bench guy, but Ashworth lacks the size and athleticism to be a starter. I'm not sure why this keeps getting brought up.

One thing that Ashworth did well was bringing it up against the press. He sees the floor well and was good at making the right play to break it.

Makes sense since they added 3 or more transfer guards with 2 of them being coach smith guys. I’d love for this kid to transfer up to usu.

No question he would be a slam dunk signing. Any reason to think he’d have interest in playing here? I have to think he’ll end up at a higher tier P5 than Utah.

There's no chance he ends up at USU. He's looking to either go back home & play pro or go high major.

The sense I get from the Trib article is that he is only taking calls from select schools and is considering a return to Utah.

If we're looking for a PG, I hope the staff at least takes a look at Deng Dut from College of Southern Idaho who just decommitted from the University of Portland of the WCC. He's from Australia. He was Region 18 POY, 14.7 ppg, 49% from 3, 51% overall fg, 85% ft, 5.1 apg, 5.4 rbg. His highlight video is worth watching. He's got all around skills, 6'4".
