The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I wish he would transfer to USU and then Al Lewis and Rod Tueller were to come back to call the games.
That would be gold, Jerry, gold!
Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
That is a good name, but not nearly as interesting as Pauly Paulicap of DePaul, Both Gach of Minnesota, or even my own legal name.

A thread to keep an eye on. UMBC insider indicating we may be done raiding the UMBC pantry, which is fine with me. Kennedy and Akin are guys that could be solid bench pieces that I’d look at if we strike out elsewhere or have further departures.
Zapala leaves? Plug in Akin for a year.
Bairstow or McChesney don’t like the PT situation when another two grad transfers are added? plug in Kennedy for some bench scoring punch. That’s how I see it at least.

This morning I was combing through 247's transfer portal & can't believe all the talent still sitting there among Guards. I really hope our staff is at least reaching out to a lot of those guys.
From this link you can filter by position to the Guards. https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Baske ... ferPortal/

Thanks Roy. But are we even connected to any of them. Seems very quiet on our end.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 9:30 amThis morning I was combing through 247's transfer portal & can't believe all the talent still sitting there among Guards. Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
This is a good question. Would take a dive into twitter searches to find out. Even then, the amount of players in the portal is overwhelming and there just isn’t coverage for every player’s recruitment. I am certain our staff is on the hunt. What else would they be doing right now?slcagg wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 9:32 amThanks Roy. But are we even connected to any of them. It sounds like Odom had his dad (former Wake Forest coach) and brother (NBA Scout) here last week in the workouts with the team. Probably has a good idea of what we need now, and I am sure is out looking for it.

The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Weren’t we somewhat interested in Drew Buggs last year when he was transferring from Hawaii? He ended up going to Missouri but is in the portal again after not seeing much playing time at Missou. He’s not a great shooter but is a great distributor and point guard (averaged 5.4 assists/game at HI) and nice size/length at 6’3”. Can dribble drive and kick out. I imagine he can defend as well but really have no idea.

The problem is that folks will say that it buggs them that we have another non-shooter.slcagg wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 10:06 amWe were interested in him. Tread lightly. We aren’t supposed to talk about this till next February and only wins on the court matter.slcagg wrote:Thanks Roy. But are we even connected to any of them. It is all part of my supernatural prediction about RS JRs transferring out and Shulga replacing Anthony in starting rotation. I am the one to blame for this.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 11:26 amYou mean the consensus second best player in the portal? I hope he gets a call from us.

Stats are underwhelming, but I don't know squat when it comes to players/transfers. Anyone in the know, is this a big impact sort of player?

Silver was injured all last season, and he played in NCAA tournament and flashed potential. Silver was a very good shooter in JUCO.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 12:39 pmStats are underwhelming, but I don't know squat when it comes to players/transfers. Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Tariq Silver may not be anything to get incredibly excited about, but I would be happy if we landed him. He's got a skillset we are missing. He's a big guard with athleticism we're sorely missing. He can also shoot the ball.
At Tallahassee Community college he was ranked the 17th JUCO recruit in the country averaging 12 ppg & shot 46% from the 3. I imagine he was the propensity to be a good defender as well.
As SLB pointed out, he got some good minutes in the NCAA tournament for Oregon State & looked good.

We have NOT contacted Tariq. Some of you need to keep in mind that sometimes dudes leak names just to try and drum up more interest. When our name comes up, I would say it's only true about half the time.SLB wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 1:18 pmSLB wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 12:45 pmSilver was injured all last season, and he played in NCAA tournament and flashed potential. Well then I apologize. I didn't realize that you knew Anthony was going to transfer! Now I'm Shulga all the way, would love to see them play against each other and Shulga break his career high in steals and then after the game turn to Coach Smith and say 'you should have taken me' then come to the student section and party!SLB wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 11:30 amIt is all part of my supernatural prediction about RS JRs transferring out and Shulga replacing Anthony in starting rotation. If Portland St. can reel in this guy, we should be cleaning house.
