The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Maybe we can use this thread for any transfer portal discussion (maybe that’s too optimistic) this offseason (USU-related or otherwise).
Kruger at UNLV is quietly killing it.

UNLV has always been able to attract big time recruits. It will remain to be seen if Krueger is actually able to keep them around long enough to build something.

Hopefully UNLV can improve. That's a name brand program that will get the MW more and more respect (which equals more bids).

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
We need some natural scorers that can shoot from deep and also create their own shots......play defense and willing to pass the ball. Here's an intriguing transfer possibility that Coach Odom would be familiar with.
Brenton Mills (Binghamton) Soph SG 6'3" - 14 pts/ 3 rbs / 2 ast and 40% from 3. - He averaged 20pts a game in the two games vs UMBC last season so I'm sure Odom is familiar with him. He was the best player on a bad team who just fired their coach. He's originally from Texas so pulling him out of the NE may not be that difficult.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Maybe it's been mentioned but Jesse Wade is also in the portal. He picked us over the Zags a few years ago and then made a pit stop at BYU this last season (and got stuck in an elevator). I think he's too similar to Ashworth and while one of those guys is good maybe one is enough. I wouldn't be completely opposed to Connor Harding from BYU (Pocatello kid). He's had some good moments at Provo but once again may be a duplicate of Miller and though he can play a good roll he's not the creator that we are looking for.

While we are familiar with those guys, I suspect Odom has his sights set higher than that.
We will still have guys like them on the team, they will not likely be the focus in the future.

I would definitely take the two UMBC guys before Harding or Wade.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Yeah I agree with that. Darnell and Horvath would be potential starters on our team whereas Harding and Wade would likely be depth guys.....although Harding has started about 30%-50% of BYU's games over his career.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 2:09 pmI would definitely take the two UMBC guys before Harding or Wade.

I will say it again, my understanding is wade injuries have for the most part really hurt him athletically. He is not coming here. Unfortunate for him.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Ok, let's forget I even mentioned Wade.
What are your thoughts about Brenton Mills? Probably similar to Eytle-Rock (best scorer on a lower level team). Or would you prefer an end-of-bench player on a P-5 who has 3-4 stars? I'm not saying one is a better path than the other but I think someone like Mills and Eytle-Rock could step right in and contribute without much risk whereas a fellow sophomore who's sat at the end of a Big12 team's bench for two seasons is more unproven in my mind.

You mean BACK to Iowa State. It’s a bit odd to have left a team, play a year somewhere else and then go back again.Bank Shot wrote:As expected, Caleb Grill is following Otz to Iowa St

Hopefully that does bode well for keeping Marco. Jenkins shot 43% from 3 so that is a good get for Craig.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Lots of possibilities:
(1) the guys lined up fell through, or aren’t yet solidly on-board;
(2) we never had any guys lined up;
(3) we expect to have more scholarships available than we have guys lined up;
(4) these guys are a backup plan; or
(5) the guys lined up are actually the back-up plan.

In all seriousness SMU isn’t a bad program though as they finished 4th in the AAC, just behind Memphis and ahead of Cincy. I agree the other teams wouldn’t be a step up from his current school (Jacksonville St).

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
While the portal is not a new thing, the amount that it has been used is what has changed recently. Even so USU has not used the portal much. Besides the soon to be former Aggie Marco Anthony we were rumored to have struck out quite a bit last year from targets in the portal. I'll reserve judgement and let Coach Odom assemble a staff and see what they can do but either the former staff weren't great recruiters or getting guys to Logan, UT is difficult (even with great facilities and fan support) or maybe its a combination of the two.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑April 12th, 2021, 12:48 pmLol, we may actually have a chance at this guy!Yossarian wrote:Some stiff competition there.
