Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
If the football program was struggling to bring in transfers I would agree, but the football staff has done an excellent job over the last 3 months bringing in transfers from all P5/G5 levels and cultural backgrounds.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 7:45 amYikes - I know there has been some issues in athletics (football with prior staff, people out to get Hartwell etc) but are these issues still prevalent?
Is there a really poor perception of Logan and northern Utah from the outside or within basketball people?
When Mrs Musselman screamed racism from our fans is that perception still out there?
I know that when a coach leaves there will be some changes but it seemed like Craig and his staff had a heck of a time bringing in talent. The MWC is a good conference with good facilities players get to play in, USU has a history of winning and success, has a great homecourt and support.
I know getting P5 transfers or "winning" the transfer wars each year is not a guarantee of being a good team and there are a lot of players in the portal and plenty of time I am just wondering if there are issues or perception issues that are making things difficult?

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Agreed, the coach did his introductory press conference last Tuesday. A week later and we are stressing out, which I admit when we don't hear things it gets frustrating. Our roster right now is not good for next year, but even keeping Worster and Anthony it was still going to be a rebuilding year next season. We still can bring in some impact players.CacheAggie wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 9:17 amSo everyone is freaking out and afraid that our program is going to be a dumpster fire. Come on people the new coach hasn’t even been here for two weeks. His philosophy is extremely different from Coach Smith’s, so we can expect some turnover and with the transfer rules this year giving everyone a free year, we can expect a lot of turnover across the board in college basketball. I for one am going to remain calm and wait and see how things turn next year. We can all panic when and if we turn into a dumpster fire on the court next season. Until that happens I think everyone need to calm down and realize that we all freaked out when Craig Smith was hired and things started off slowly for him as well. I think things turned out pretty good during his stay here.

Come to Logan, RJ. It's just like London and Baltimore, except for more cows and mountains and less people.

This is shocking. I feel like RayJ could have done better than Toledo. This just goes to show there are a lot of talented players in the portal looking for a home that could help us a lot.

This also shows that many of the departing players around the league are not going to climb the ladder to a big showy program like they hope.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 11:04 am

He's from the mid-west so perhaps he wanted to be closer to home. Plus Toledo's PG just transferred to Arizona State. He had the infamous moment against us in the melt down classic and started off strong this year but production and playing time fell off dramatically.

He started off well this year but really played poor towards the end of the year. May have played a part in that as well in what other coaches saw.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 11:04 am

We seem to have some players that started off well and struggled towards the end.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I'm not too shocked by this. This actually seems about right for him. He had one monster game against USU as a freshman.and that was his big contribution there. Other than that, he has been pretty ...... meh.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 11:04 am

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
BINGO! If Rollie (for example) doesn't land at Utah or decide to return, I'll bet he ends up at Montana or Montana State. There are 1,400 names in the transfer portal and what, maybe 100 - 120 (at most) open scholarships at P5 programs (not to mention incoming freshmen). The math doesn't add up.AggiePT wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 11:21 amThis also shows that many of the departing players around the league are not going to climb the ladder to a big showy program like they hope.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 13th, 2021, 11:04 am

Who were they? Also is the coaching staff solely targeting transfer portal players or is he also looking at the HS ranks?

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
Here are 2 transfers that I find interesting. Both could add to our international roster.
Damion Squire (UC Davis)

Vladislav Goldin (Texas Tech)

I bet we at least get one of those UMBC guys. There's usually always one that follows the coach.

Just kidding. Hard pass on a guy that averaged 1 pt a game for a crappy UNLV team.
