Yep, I like to see our name out there and that we seem to be aiming high. Confirms my suspicion that we are just being selective.

I agree with Coach Odom that we are well-positioned for portal success. We offer easier access to playing time than a P5 school, but still a pretty nice stage from which to showcase. Just gotta find the right guy.

I'm glad we wouldn't even consider Rylan Jones. Why in the world would we want a guy who is leaving, most likely, because he's not confident of competing with Rollie. Sounds like instant downgrade at a position we need to upgrade.

I just don’t understand this mentality of talking down other good players just cuz they don’t play for Utah State.

Jones would be an instant upgrade. We’d be lucky to have him.

Are you saying Jones is an upgrade over Rollie? If so, why would he come here, if he's going to play over Rollie where he is?

If you get a new coach who brings in his guys that play the same spot as you, it’s pretty likely you’re not going to get a fair shot. Wouldn’t blame him for leaving and would welcome him here if that’s how it shook out.

Your mother went to byu.........Like 2004 said, it seems if they don’t play for utah state, they suck. I get it when it’s a player that leaves us (Rollie, Marco, etc) but when we do it to players that have not left us (Rylan) I just don’t get it.

Can you blame his sophomore slump solely on injuries or is there concern there? He wasn't very good this past year. It would be nice to find some shooters and he isn't it if you go by this past season.

Agreed I have no idea on what happened this year. I do know if he transferred here after his freshman year most would have been ecstatic.

Think dad took a hs job in salt lake. Maybe highland?

I do think their is a connection there with Falslev. That’s the kid I really hope ends up here.

I'm sorry if I hit a nerve regarding Jones. If he comes here and can take us to the next level (which is winning a tourney game vs a P5 school) then great. IMO we needed a big upgrade over Rollie to accomplish that. If Jones is that guy then I guess we can revel in the fact that Smith screwed up by taking Rollie with him. I just think in order to get to the next level we need an elite player at that position and from what 22 infers the coaching staff is aiming at something better than Rollie, Jones, and of course, Ashworth. Nothing against Ashworth either. I think he's a nice piece to the puzzle but not THAT guy and next year with no Sams, Quetas, etc. we need that type of guy.

If you guys watch enough U games to think he is, then I will feel better about it. But my initial reaction was why do we want to settle on a guy that is competing with Worster for minutes when we need (or should want) something much better. Good enough for Worster to be going to Utah as a backup PG, which I can't get my head around.

If I sounded like a Zoob, then I need a few days to lock myself in a room and puke my guts out.

I know Jones had the more impressive high school career, but is he similar to Ashworth? While I wouldn’t mind having Rylan at USU if we had a few open spots, I don’t see him as the major impact player we need to get with our last available scholarship. If we want to have a shot at making the tourney or finishing in the top 3 of the MW, the last schollie will need to land the best player on next year’s team.

I agree with this. I’d love him on the team, but I would be pretty “meh” about it if he’s the last scholarship. Would be happy about adding him if he’s replacing someone on the current roster that doesn’t play.

On the other hand, we could do much worse than him too. I about had a stroke when Jesse Wade was thought to be on the table. Jones would be 1000x better than Wade.

Obviously Jones went to Olympus High and his family lives in Holladay but 247 lists him as from Logan originally? Is that true?
I’d be very happy with Jones at USU and see him as an upgrade to Worster in every aspect but one.

Rylan’s dad was stew’s long time assistant & lived in Logan. Utah hired Chris Jones around 2015 & they moved down there.

I can confirm Rylan & his dad have been back visiting in Logan recently.
