I don't think I would normally be worried about a few leaving, but I do find it concerning because Odom said at the press conference he wants them all to stay.

Also, I think this decision was made before Odom was hired.

At the risk of stating the obvious, this one hurts because it's loosing a contributing freshman, no sophomore, who will only get better and prove to be a solid foundation for the Aggies. Did Pederson recruit him?

Makes sense. He's obviously getting good minutes here but have you seen Utah's roster lately, especially factoring in transfers out? Rollie can play 43 minutes a game and take 36 shots every night if he wants to down there.

I am going to say it is either Anthony or McChesney, although Zapala would not surprise either.

Sounds like everyone is implying he's following Smith to Utah. Will he have to sit out a year, or are they waiving that rule due to Covid?

I wanted Rollie to stay more than I wanted anyone else to stay. That said, given the jam packed transfer portal, and a new coach coming in with former players, recruits, and other connections, I'm less heartbroken to have lots of available scholarships.

I’m bummed. But that’s not fair. The guy that recruited them is gone.

Yeah, I am more excited by the moment actually. When we were staring at 2 open spots I couldn't see a way that we could be competitive next year - now? with 4-5 openings Odom can really get some guys in here that not only want to play his style but have the athletic ability to do so.

Assuming there are players available that are better than what we are losing + Odom can get them to come here. I'm hoping he can, but glad it's his job and not mine.

Now if the transfers/signees we get are underwhelming with 1100 guys in portal than it will be time to panic - that would show lack of recruiting ability or that it’s really hard to get players to Logan

What do you expect Odom to say in the press conference? Name a few players he REALLY wants to stay, a few others he would be kind of wants to have stay, and a few others that he would be kind of OK with having leave?

Here’s my best attempt at a silver lining. When you are playing Bean at the 4, and a non-shooter at the 5 spot, you really need the guys playing Rollie’s and Marco’s positions to be consistent shooters. Rollie and Marco are great players, but shooters they are not.That’s my best attempt at a silver lining.

How I really feel—Smith left and took two of the best players with him and left the remaining fruits of his bad recruiting on the roster for the new coach to deal with. The two guys I am excited about coming back are a former walkon turned Aggie god and a Duryea recruit.

Probably wouldn't matter who was hired, these kids were all recruited by Smith and his staff so of course they have a certain level of loyalty to him. What is disappointing is that loyalty is greater than their sense of being an Aggie. For someone like Worster, he never even got to play in front of a true Spectrum crowd and the college experience as a whole has not been "normal" so they didn't get that Aggie experience that they would have otherwise had without Covid. To them, coach Smith and his staff are a big part of their college experience so far. For someone like Marco, his only tie to USU was Smith so no surprise if he wants to follow him.

Well, coach Odom had better become very acquainted with the portal very quickly.
This hurts and all, but I think there are some great players in the portal that can replace and even upgrade those that are leaving.

I want Rollie to stay more than Marco even, but clearly would like both to stick around. But like others have said, being able to offer starter minutes to a player in the transfer portal is huge. Also, the way teams approach offense these days teams can still be very competitive from year to year with roster turnover.
