Re: Merrill in doghouse
Poor coaching. If he had played the whole game he would have scored 45 and they wouldn't have lost to the Warriors. If Bud would read our board he would understand how to take small sample sizes and extrapolate them over a whole season. I believe he should be starting over Alphabet.

I don't think Merrill is in the doghouse, I think his coach is stupid. Playing Forbes instead of Merrill is the proof.

Sam had a decent line in Milwaukee’s 8-point home loss to Charlotte tonight:

5 of 13 from the floor
3 of 8 on 3-pointers
6 defensive rebounds
2 assists
1 TO

Merrill definitely showing he belongs in the NBA and making it hard for Bud to keep him on the bench.

I realize the situations are different, but Sam is getting a whole lot more run than Elijah Hughes, the Jazz's second round pick.

Yup. Sam is getting a TON of run for a rookie second round pick. A beneficiary of load management.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2021, 8:03 amI realize the situations are different, but Sam is getting a whole lot more run than Elijah Hughes, the Jazz's second round pick.

Re: Merrill in doghouse
On Sam Merrill’s Instagram story, there’s a shout out from Caleb Martin after last nights game. Sounds like they are buddies and talked about the battles they had in the MW. It was pretty cool. Looks like they traded and signed each other’s jerseys.

The Martin twins always seemed like great players... I really enjoyed their game at Nevada. Have they gone their entire lives on the same team?scotlandog wrote: ↑April 10th, 2021, 1:08 pmOn Sam Merrill’s Instagram story, there’s a shout out from Caleb Martin after last nights game. Sam had 8 pts in 7 min (2-3 from three) tonight in a blowout win over the magic.

Re: Merrill in doghouse
Merrill again showed he has NBA potential if he gets a legitimate shot. Today he got in with a few minutes left in a massive blowout, but went 3-3 with 8 points and swished two 3's. His 3p% is now 46%. He keeps making it hard for them not to play him.

Re: Merrill in doghouse
Sam is getting some playing time tonight against the Bulls but he is laying an egg. Currently he’s 1/7 from the field, has missed all of his 3-pointers and has the worst +/- of any Milwaukee player.

Re: Merrill in doghouse
The Martin twins and the guy you hate the most, Caroline, always spoke of their respect for Merrill. Sam is an outstanding player..
Jalen Harris has had a nice finish to the season though he has battled a foot injury that he suffered in the G league. He went for 31 points in his previous game.
I think Merrill, Harris and the Martins will all be in the league next season. Perhaps the most interesting late season story is Cam Oliver. He has come back from playing in Australia and numerous injuries..He is still just 24 and I think he has a good shot at some NBA dough going forward.

Re: Merrill in doghouse
Yep, his plus minus in those two games were brutal. His season is over other than garbage time in playoff blowouts.
Overall I still contend he had a decent season for being a rookie 60th pick on a contending team. 60th picks often don't make the team or even see time in an NBA game. Recent ones such as Alpha Kaba and Vanja Marinković didn't make the league and Kostas Antetokounmpo while still being in the league 3 years later barely sees the floor and has accomplished even less than Merrill in that time. Merrill just needs to build on this season and get better for next year.

Re: Merrill in doghouse
I've wondered if the Lakers signed Kostas as a ploy to try and land Giannis next year. Now that Giannis is re-signed long term in Milwaukee we'll have to see if he sticks in LA or somewhere else.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑May 21st, 2021, 11:34 amYep, his plus minus in those two games were brutal. It is likely Kostas has played his last NBA game.

This keeps reminding me of Jazz legend Kosta Koufus (spelling).
