I brought it up in the other thread but it got lost a little. One of the big questions JH was going to ask in interviews, is who would make up the staff. Does anybody have any insight on this. Is Odom bringing some of his staff with him. Is he going to retain some current. Or is he just going to start over?

A lot of posters bring up Spencer being an assistant, but is Spencer even coaching anymore? I love Spencer but would rather have a coach who is looking to move up the ranks.

Tai Wesley just wrapped up his pro career and I believe is living in Utah somewhere. He'd be an amazing assistant coach! Re: Staff
One of my favorite people In the world (let alone Aggie ballers) is a guy by the name of Tyler Newbold. He would make an incredible coach. All around amazing person. He has that ability to make people feel special.
But the private sector also knows how awesome Tyler is and I doubt we could score him. But it’s a cool thought (at least to me). If I had my pick of former aggies to coach it would 100% be him.

Nope. That wasn't me. I read that too so I started digging. I've been unable to verify that. I have heard from a very good source (probably an 8.5 out of ten on Jaycee information) that he wants to coach when he retires. But he may want to stick to coaching high school.

Yeah Jaycee won't be on staff next year. The staff will be finalized well before Real Madrid's season ends. I do wish he was the shooting coach for some of the players on our team.

Why are you enamored with Spencer as an assistant? When Smith came in and did not retain him Spencer took a job with a financial advisory group. Just because someone was great as a player at USU doesn't mean they are a good coach and should be on staff.

Not quite. Nobody thought it was “horrible”. Some of us did think it might be a good idea to have someone act as a “bridge” for the current players and to help navigate the state of Utah.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote:There were people on here that made it out to be this horrible thing that Craig Smith didn't retain Spencer. Do you guys know Spencer? There is a reason people are high on him.
He just relates to people, pretty much everyone. He can return to the investment banking business anytime he wants, but was excited to try coaching, and by all accounts was really good at it.
I don’t know if he still wants to, but if he did, he would be successful, and I would love to see it.

Spencer is one of my all-time favorite Aggie players. But I’m interested in the evidence of your statement that “by all accounts” he was really good as an assistant. He was on Duryea’s staff for two years. During those two years we finished 7th and 8th in the conference and were a combined 6 games under .500. What am I missing?cval wrote: ↑April 5th, 2021, 9:28 pmDo you guys know Spencer? There is a reason people are high on him.

I have no idea if Spencer is great as an assistant. He got lots of praise as a player. Stew probably spoke as highly of Spencer Nelson as anyone else he ever coached. Spencer recruited Bean. There are definitely more experienced and qualified candidates with stronger recruiting ties, but I’m note sure how significant the contributions are for a 3rd assistant. It would be great to see a former Aggie great on staff, but I don’t know if any former Aggie greats would make an excellent assistant.
