Chasing a unicorn? Are there any candidates with USU ties?
Is there anyone in the coaching world that would be a plausible candidate and who has played or coached for the Aggies, or even attended USU? Not sufficient, obviously, but is there even anyone who ought to be on the list? Of course Duryea and Rahe assisted here, and apparently Don Verlin's a free agent , and Chris Jones is on the market now too. I'm discounting Spencer Nelson's one year as a third chair assistant.
Nobody here knows anything.

I'd support him as an assistant, but we need a proven winner as a HC. That worked out well when we hired Larry, Stew and Mildred Gillars. It will work out the next time.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 12:07 pmHow about bring in Jaycee Carroll as the next coach.....

Re: Chasing a unicorn? Are there any candidates with USU ties?
Can someone tell me why it’s at all important to hire someone who has a connection with USU? Perhaps that criteria could come into play should the choice be a toss up. Loyalty between the university, the fans and the coach would seemingly be three points of a triangle with the arrows from each point going towards the other two points. In reality, as we have seen in the past, the arrows actually only go between the fans and the university.

I like the Tim Miles idea I've seen floated around
"You guys have sacrificed in ways you've never sacrificed before. You've given more. You expect more...Tonight is our opportunity to write the story of who this family, who this program, who this team will be" -Coach Blake Anderson

No, Rupp has Ute ties if I remember correctly. Don't think he has any to USU.

Rupp played basketball at USU for a couple of years. Am I so old that I’m the only one on this board that remembers this?

NVSpuds mentioned Dave Rice in another thread. Was assistant here for a year under Stew. I don’t think it’s a terrible idea to at least consider him.OKAggie wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 12:03 pmIs there anyone in the coaching world that would be a plausible candidate and who has played or coached for the Aggies, or even attended USU? But definitely count me in the camp that doesn’t believe anyone we hire has to have any ties to Utah State.just get the best guy (or Becky Hammon) that you can.

Didn't Rice leave here to go to the why then got hired then fired by UNLV?bluegrouse wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 4:07 pmNVSpuds mentioned Dave Rice in another thread. He was 98-54 at UNLV. He played there. Unrealistic expectations forced him out. I’m not saying he’s the guy but not a bad idea to look at him.ViAggie wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 4:11 pmDidn't Rice leave here to go to the why then got hired then fired by UNLV?bluegrouse wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 4:07 pmNVSpuds mentioned Dave Rice in another thread. He's currently an Assistant Coach with Washington, he might have been one of the people who e-mailed JH a resume this morning?bluegrouse wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 4:20 pmHe was 98-54 at UNLV. He seems like a good guy, got this from his Wikipedia page: Rice and his wife, Mindy, established the Dave Rice Foundation in the spring of 2012. The foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and support of health initiatives including developmental disorders such as Autism, and other charitable causes.[17] It has awarded over $600,000 in grants to various Autism-related organizations in Southern Nevada.[18]

I actually think that Rice could be a good choice. If I remember right didn't he leave Logan after 1 year with reports that he didn't really like it though?
