13=13 ('21-'22 Roster. Updated 5/24)
Re: 13=13
Haha, I figured it was obvious, but I've also seen speculation that he could follow Smith to Utah. Which is nonsense and has been all along.

I think Duryea could recruit. I don't think he could inspire or manage in game. We got some talent while he was here. He just didn't utilize it or discipline it.stang wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 11:32 amHaha, I figured it was obvious, but I've also seen speculation that he could follow Smith to Utah. Re: 13=13
He couldn't even manage a summer basketball camp. My sons went to a USU Summer Basketball Camp when Duryea was the head coach and Louis Wilson was running everything although Tim was there. If I had just shown up and not known anything about USU's basketball program I would have thought that Wilson was the head coach. Spencer was heavily involved as well.Donman wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 11:35 amI think Duryea could recruit. I don't think he could inspire or manage in game. We got some talent while he was here. He recruited McEwen which even though Mcewen's college career has been disappointing was a big time recruit. Probably one of the highest level recruits USU has ever had. His staff also found Bean who was a true diamond in the rough. Credit there. Otherwise he wasn't a good recruiter.Donman wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 11:35 amI think Duryea could recruit. This is updated now on the first page. We have three spots remaining. We need some athleticism at the Guard spot in the worst way.

I'm actually shocked that Smith didn't try and feed Queta some line about boosting his profile by playing the PAC 12 too. I know he shut that question down when he was asked the first day but it had to be tempting to him since he was going shopping on our roster anyway.

Pelle Larsson 6-5 215 G So. Nacka, Sweden / Riksbasketgymnasiet Luleå
Jaxon Brenchley 6-5 194 G Jr. Providence, Utah / Ridgeline HS
Eli Ballstaedt 6-5 200 G Jr. Heber City, Utah / Wasatch HS
Rylan Jones 6-0 178 G Jr. Holladay, Utah / Olympus HS
Mikael Jantunen 6-8 220 F Jr. Helsinki, Finland / Helsinki Basketball Academy
Riley Battin 6-9 230 F Sr. Oak Park, Calif. / Oak Park HS
Jack Jamele 6-5 185 G R-Fr. Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes HS Middlebrooks Academy
Lahat Thioune 6-10 243 C Jr. Dakar, Senegal / Florida Prep
Harrison Creer 6-4 234 G So. Holladay, Utah / Olympus HS
Branden Carlson 7-0 219 C Jr. South Jordan, Utah / Bingham HS
David Jenkins Jr. 6-2 195 G Sr. Tacoma, Wash. / Wilson Senior HS UNLV / South Dakota State
Gabe Madsen 6-5 195 G So. Rochester, Minn. / Mayo Senior HS Cincinnati
Rollie Worster 6-3 198 G
I count 13 players total (unless one of these dudes is a walk-on), including 9 guards, 2 forwards, and 2 centers. Where would Marco fit in? On paper, it looks like Smith chose Rolie over Marco. Given his age and potential, I'd probably done the same.

No question. Marco makes sense for the U, but the U doesn’t really make sense for Marco. He’s just not going to have near the role there. I’m not sure why he wants to be back to a situation like that after his time on the bench at UVA.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 8:03 amAn incredible defensive player like Marco will always be a commodity worth investing in.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 7:43 amSo at the U, Marco is competing for PT with Larrson, Jones, Worster, and Jenkins. Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
So technically, Utah does have 3 spots remaining. However, they all anticipate that Jantunen, their starting PF, will stay home in Europe to play pro. That leaves 4 spots. It was 5 before Rollie. This is what I think their depth chart looks like right now (assuming Jantunen is gone, if he's there he'd start at F over Battin)slcagg wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 10:34 pmRoy seems you know the Utah roster. G) Pelle Larson 6'5" SO, Rylan Jones 6'0" JR
G) David Jenkins 6'2" SR, Gabe Madsen 6'5" SO
G) Rollie Worster 6'3" SO, Jaxon Brenchley 6'5" JR
F) Riley Battin 6'9" SR
C) Brandon Carlson 7'0" JR, Lahat Thioune 6'10" JR
IMO, it makes some sense for Marco. I think he'd start as a 3rd guard/forward. Rollie is the one who might find himself down the depth chart though. Especially since Utah is still actively recruiting some bigtime transfer Guards.

Utah’s roster is the exact opposite of ours. Super guard heavy, where we’ve currently got maybe one guy that can bring the ball up the court.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 8:36 amSo technically, Utah does have 3 spots remaining. Don’t they also have a backup guard from Europe that is decent as well?Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 10:28 pmUtah has about 5 spots available due to many transfers.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 9:58 pmLooking at Utah's roster, they seem to already have 13 scholarship players. Will he be walking on?
G) Pelle Larson, Rylan Jones
G) David Jenkins, Rollie Worster
G) Gabe Madsen, Jaxon Brenchley
F) Riley Battin
C) Brandon Carlson, Lahat Thioune
IMO, it makes some sense for Marco. I think he'd start at G/F over Gabe Madsen. Rollie is the one who might find himself down the depth chart though. Especially since Utah is still actively recruiting some bigtime transfer Guards.
All three of our remaining scholarships need to go to guards, IMO.

Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
So, if Fonz for whatever reason were to decide to come back, would he count against the 13? I have it in my head that super seniors aren’t counters for some reason. Am I wrong?

Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
Thanks Roy. That is what I was wondering. Could see rollie or Marco perhaps fall down the depth chart. The depth chart listed above shows some solid talent along the guard lines including Rollie.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 8:36 amSo technically, Utah does have 3 spots remaining.

Fonz would be super valuable to have — size, spacing, some skill. I could see a starting lineup of Horvath, Bean, Fonz, and two new guards that can penetrate and shoot the 3. That would give us four capable 3 pt shooters on the floor. I could see Fonz getting a lot more PT on a team w/o Queta.
Why dip down to Seattle U or whatever when there’s PT to be had here?

Fonz is looking for a school closer to his Tacoma home. He's not coming back.
