According to McEwen, Louis Wilson was the reason he signed with USU. Wilson and Geno Morgan were friends. Geno Morgan recruited McEwen to Wasatch Academy. 6:35 on the video.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑April 18th, 2021, 1:13 pmLet's be honest, Condie recruited McEwen.rAggie wrote: ↑April 17th, 2021, 3:56 pmLouis Wilson recruited McEwen.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 1:20 pmHe recruited McEwen which even though Mcewen's college career has been disappointing was a big time recruit. Probably one of the highest level recruits USU has ever had. His staff also found Bean who was a true diamond in the rough. Credit there. Otherwise he wasn't a good recruiter.Donman wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 11:35 amI think Duryea could recruit. I don't think he could inspire or manage in game. We got some talent while he was here. He just didn't utilize it or discipline it.stang wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 11:32 amHaha, I figured it was obvious, but I've also seen speculation that he could follow Smith to Utah. Which is nonsense and has been all along.

I'm confused, there are 13 players listed and 13 scholarships (13=13), what am I missing? Pelle Larsson 6-5 215 G So. Nacka, Sweden / Riksbasketgymnasiet Luleå
Jaxon Brenchley 6-5 194 G Jr. Providence, Utah / Ridgeline HS
Eli Ballstaedt 6-5 200 G Jr. Heber City, Utah / Wasatch HS
Rylan Jones 6-0 178 G Jr. Holladay, Utah / Olympus HS
Mikael Jantunen 6-8 220 F Jr. Helsinki, Finland / Helsinki Basketball Academy
Riley Battin 6-9 230 F Sr. Oak Park, Calif. / Oak Park HS
Jack Jamele 6-5 185 G R-Fr. Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes HS Middlebrooks Academy
Lahat Thioune 6-10 243 C Jr. Dakar, Senegal / Florida Prep
Harrison Creer 6-4 234 G So. Holladay, Utah / Olympus HS
Branden Carlson 7-0 219 C Jr. South Jordan, Utah / Bingham HS
David Jenkins Jr. 6-2 195 G Sr. Tacoma, Wash. / Wilson Senior HS UNLV / South Dakota State
Gabe Madsen 6-5 195 G So. Rochester, Minn. / Mayo Senior HS Cincinnati
Rollie Worster 6-3 198 G
I count 13 players total (unless one of these dudes is a walk-on), including 9 guards, 2 forwards, and 2 centers. Where would Marco fit in? On paper, it looks like Smith chose Rolie over Marco. Given his age and potential, I'd probably done the same.

So should I find it encouraging that Marco hasn’t committed to Utah yet, or is that just wishful thinking?

It's not Wyatt Lowell. For the record, it's definitely not a done deal but I do know there's been interest shown from both sides. It's someone who is currently in the transfer portal.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 12:20 pmThanks for the tip! Just please tell me it isn't Wyatt Lowell?!

Jordan Brinson (UVU)
Jordan Kellier (Utah)
Darnell Latham, Jr. (SUU)
Ian Martinez (Utah)
Norbert Thelissen (Utah)
Only the last two move the meter for me.

Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
Martinez just committed to Maryland. Thelissen would be a solid get but I don't think he ever even set foot on Utah's campus, so it's not like he has a deep connection to the state. Kellier and Latham are not MWC players IMO. My best guesses:
Jordan Brinson (if staff thinks he's healthy)
Jesse Wade (ditto)
Kolby Lee (not a position of need, but a solid player)

Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
I really hope not. I see no one in the portal from any in-state school that I am interested in having on our team. Sorry, but gotta be honest. Martinez was the only one that would have moved the needle and he is off the board.
I’d honestly be angry if we used a scholarship on any in-state occupants of the portal. There are sooooo many promising players out there in the portal that we shouldn’t be wasting our time on in-state guys that didn’t produce at peer (BYU) or lower division schools. We are soo much better than BYU castoffs. At least I think so.
Some stats:
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... jesse-wade
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... /kolby-lee
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... an-brinson
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... an-kellier
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... -latham-jr
I can't make a case for how any of these guys make our roster better. If any of these guys join the team as anything but a walk-on, I'll be pressing the panic button.
I’d prefer adding Kennedy and/or Akin from UMBC to anyone on that list.

It could very well be Lee. He is expected to make an announcement on Monday about the in-state team that he will be transferring to. It is not UVU and the school he is transferring has been recruiting him hard. My guess is that it's either us or Weber. Lee's mom played bball at Utah State.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 5:32 pmI really hope not. I see no one in the portal from any in-state school that I am interested in having on our team. Aggies22 dug a bit deeper into it, and it sounds like the in-state player being discussed is no longer a possibility. Which I think is probably for the best.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 20th, 2021, 5:32 pmI really hope not. Yeah, I was thinking it was USU for sure when I started reading that article but the fact he says he will be joining an "up and coming" program made me think there is no way he is taking about the Aggies.
I have to believe it is WSU.

I don’t much care as long as it isn’t here!

Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
I'm pretty sure there is a D-1 team in St. George.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 10:29 pmIt could very well be Lee.

/kolby-lee
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... an-brinson
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... an-kellier
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... -latham-jr
I can't make a case for how any of these guys make our roster better. If any of these guys join the team as anything but a walk-on, I'll be pressing the panic button.
I’d prefer adding Kennedy and/or Akin from UMBC to anyone on that list.

Not only is he not a possibility, I got the impression he was never considered.stang wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 10:49 pmAggies22 dug a bit deeper into it, and it sounds like the in-state player being discussed is no longer a possibility. Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
Barring another player on the team leaving (which I still put odds at about 50%) it looks like we're done. Let's assume Brock Miller is a go. Here's my guess at a depth chart:
G) Rylan Jones, Steven Ashworth
G) RJ Eytle-Rock, Max Shulga, Muzamil Ameer-Hamoda
G) Brock Miller, Sean Bairstow
F) Justin Bean, Liam McChesney, Cade Potter
C) Brandon Horvath, Trevin Dorius, Szymon Zapala
And honestly, I like it.

Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
I'm good with it. I still think we have one too many scholarships devoted to frontcourt players. We are a little thin on the guard line. Although, I think Cade Potter plays more like a "big guard" like Bairstow, so maybe not? If you watch his highlights, he's always on the perimeter.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 8:39 amBarring another player on the team leaving (which I still put odds at about 50%) it looks like we're done. Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
I'm hearing that everyone is a go for the 2021-22 season. If anyone bailed it would be completely unexpected.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 8:39 amBarring another player on the team leaving (which I still put odds at about 50%) it looks like we're done. Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
Could be. Probably should wait and see what the fallout is from adding Jones. Or is this information that everyone is a “go” from after the Jones addition?aggies22 wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 10:59 amI'm hearing that everyone is a go for the 2021-22 season. Re: 13=13 ('21-'22 Roster)
I do too, especially with the addition of the Flying Dutchman. We won’t be elite defensively without Queta or Marco but we also won’t be anemic offensively. I think we’re all forgetting just how bad we were offensively this season. We could count on a 7-10 min drought in both halves every game last year. It proves how good our defense was that we could still earn an invite.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑May 7th, 2021, 8:39 amBarring another player on the team leaving (which I still put odds at about 50%) it looks like we're done.
