Key to the Game: Outside shooting
I am quite sure that TT's gameplan is to deny Queta the ball inside. If it is not their game plan, they haven't scouted us well.
Our offense works best when it runs through Queta in the post. However, Tech has struggled against good big men this year because they don't have a lot of size. Because they are not big, they will probably have to double Queta, leaving guys open on the perimeter. In order for us to win, we will absolutely have to hit outside shots. That makes me a bit nervous, because frankly, we aren't a great shooting team. I am hoping that good Miller shows up, and that Worster, Ashworth, Anderson, etc. can make them pay if they double team Neemi.

Idk. Maybe they pull a Boise, let Queta do whatever he wants in the post, and stop anyone else on the team from scoring. Our outside shooting has not been consistent.

Prophetic. We have had very poor shooting from outside. We are very easy to defend when that is the case.
Our ball security is horrid.

Typical loss this season. Lots of turnovers and poor shooting.

Every time we give ourselves a chance we shoot our own foot. Just terrible.

Re: Key to the Game: Outside shooting
We have had 3 years of Queta and have not figured out how to do a pick and roll to Queta. We didn’t even post Queta up in this game. We didn’t drive and dish to Queta.
On defense in the first half, we forced everything inside to Queta and we shut them down. In the second half we defended against the drives for some reason and they hit all their shots. Instead of overplaying the jump shot we just allowed them to stay outside and shoot.

Yeah last year was the year. A dominant inside and outside presence.

Re: Key to the Game: Outside shooting
turnovers and 3 point shooting were my concerns going in and they absolutely were the reason we lost. a lot of wide open 3 point shots.

Turnovers. 22 possessions without a shot. TT had 8. If we had what they had, that’s 14 more shots we would have had. A win in this game was completely doable. Turnovers....and many of them absolutely stupid ones.

This team was very easy to defend this year. Pack it in on Queta and let people shoot from outside

Great point! Why we don't pick and roll teams to death with that guy is beyond me.scotlandog wrote: ↑March 19th, 2021, 1:50 pmWe have had 3 years of Queta and have not figured out how to do a pick and roll to Queta. We didn’t even post Queta up in this game. We didn’t drive and dish to Queta.

Re: Key to the Game: Outside shooting
Wasn't prophetic, it was just the obvious game plan having watched this team all year and knowing that they didn't have anyone that could guard Queta without a double/triple team. If they had let Queta operate inside one on one, he would have feasted. You have to choose what you take away as a defense in that situation, and TT chose to take away Queta. It wasn't an accident. When they do that, you HAVE to be able to make them pay and keep them honest. What happened today is the opposite of making them pay. How many WIDE OPEN 3s did we miss? Hit just a few of those and this is a different game.
I just knew that outside shooting was likely to be a problem based on watching this team all year. Frankly, I can't believe more conference teams didn't defend us that way.
