Craig Smith's Contract Extension
USUStats has obtained a copy of Craig Smith's contract extension (which actually came as two amendments made over the last 2 years).

Enjoy.

Re: Craig Smith's Contract Extension
Sure seems like Craig Smith is not long for the USU world with the buyout getting whittled down like it is. That is chump change for a big program.

Re: Craig Smith's Contract Extension
Sounds like we’ll keep upping his contract every year tho, so the buyout will be somewhere between 1-2M if he leaves. That seems fair. None of us expected to him to stay forever (but we can hope...), not fair to give him an unrealistic buyout. We need to keep improving as a program to be more attractive to coaches. Smith has done more than what we have paid him, so we should be grateful we’re heading in the right direction.

Re: Craig Smith's Contract Extension
Of course he would never sign a unrealistic buy out, and if you do not get a extension signed well it is goodbye real soon.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2021, 1:05 pmSounds like we’ll keep upping his contract every year tho, so the buyout will be somewhere between 1-2M if he leaves. Re: Craig Smith's Contract Extension
Exactly, Smith has the leverage as he should based on the results. He is a very driven man probably dreams of making a run at a national championship. I cannot fault him he decides to leave for a higher job that is 2-3 times the pay. Let's just enjoy the ride. Either way the program is in good shape. If he comes back great, if not he has elevated the program to a better situation and we can get a good coach to keep this rolling.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2021, 1:05 pmSounds like we’ll keep upping his contract every year tho, so the buyout will be somewhere between 1-2M if he leaves. I hope he thinks he can win a national championship at USU. I believe.

Re: Craig Smith's Contract Extension
Teams have closer to negative leverage than just no leverage in these things. Getting a million bucks when he leaves would be great.

Re: Craig Smith's Contract Extension
So, with an automatic extension for NCAA bids clause, does that mean his contract now goes through the 26-27 season?
