Northern Iowa out of "Arch Madness"
after beating Illinois State last night in the opening round of the MVC tournament, UNI's quarterfinal against Drake was cancelled - due to COVID-related issues within the UNI program.
Drake advances to the semi's - UNI goes home, ending the season at 10-15; 7-11 in conference.

Re: Northern Iowa out of "Arch Madness"
Sounds like they got bounced by contact tracing and the worst part is that they followed conference guidelines and should have been good but the county they are in has stricter guidelines that they didn't know about that knocked them out. Absolutely brutal way to end your season. This is also one of the only valid reasons I've seen to not have fans. How pissed off would you be if you traveled to the tournament just to see your team get bounced by Covid?

They weren't that good this year, but dang it truly sucks to have your season end like that.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑March 5th, 2021, 7:11 pmSounds like they got bounced by contact tracing and the worst part is that they followed conference guidelines and should have been good but the county they are in has stricter guidelines that they didn't know about that knocked them out. My understanding is that Drake is down 2 or 3 starters for the rest of the year. They should not be in the tournament just based on that. Uni could have beat them tonight.

you for sure want Loyola Chicago to win that tournament as they are pretty much a lock anyways. them losing would still a possible bid from the MW.

Re: Northern Iowa out of "Arch Madness"
While it's bad for us if Covid can force teams that are locks out of the conference tournaments setting up a bid to be stolen and the team available for the NCAAs, it can be good for us if Covid hits an NCAA qualifier and opens a spot for us. As bad as it is to wish for, if there's one team that deserves a bid cause of someone else's covid misfortune, it's us after costing us our tournament bid last year, and to go along with it, Jordan Love not getting the full first round pick experience.
