Andy Katz - has USU at #34 best team

Post by LoveMyAggies » January 18th, 2021, 11:00 am

He always had a positive view and respect for our basketball program when Stew was the HC.

And he was consistently higher on Sam then other pundits were.

He also gave USU the Best of the Week nod for "Impressive Sweep".

Yeah, that is pretty awesome. Glad to see this team is getting some respect from the national media.

hmmm - he only has a handful of western teams, which I'd expect. Notably, though - only one team from Utah

That’s lunardi I believe. Good to see both him and Katz recognizing us.

I just saw this projection from Stadium -
they also have us as last 4 in.
Interesting - VCU is also last 4-in; and our projected opponent in a play-in game.

Palm has us as last 4 in vs. Stanford. Also has SDSU as last 4 in.

Boise only a 9 seed.

With that said a Stanford matchup wouldn’t be mad. They did just lose to powerhouse Utah by 20.

Starting 8-0 will get you respect. Loved what we did last week. 1 regular season win against SDSU in 7 years of being in the MW then we get 2 in three days. Awesome.

This bracket has 4 MWC teams in. That would be a dream scenario. Even 3 from the MWC would be great.

In the dark days of Duryea, I could not imagine a world in which USU could compete with SDSU, UNM, or UNLV. I thought the best we could do in the MW would be middle of the pack in conference. When i read about all the highly rated transfers from P5 schools and signings from our peer institutions, i thought we had no chance to compete. Craig Smith has renewed my hope in USU basketball. Now it is time to win some games in the NCAA tournament. This has been a pleasant surprise.

You weren't alone. That was a common perception among many when Smith was brought on board. Pretty crazy how in year 3 he has two conference titles and is 8-0 in year 3 with two wins over SDSU. It has been great.

If he could just beat BYU, he'd approach Stew's level in my book. I'm so sick of those smug mother f'ers!

Even Nevada, Fresno State, and Boise State all seem to bring in higher rated or more high profile players than USU. And yet........ Smith (and Morrill before him) have found ways to win with the guys we get. At some point i would hope this would extend to regular victories over BYU.

Bringing up beating byu, I really wish we had a full spectrum against them this year. In a close game like that I believe that would have put us over the top and we beat them this year. Sucks we had to play them in the Spectrum during the Covid year. They should have moved the neutral game to this year and had us play them in Logan next year.

Yep. Coach Smith is undefeated outside the state of South Dakota this year.

I loved old Stew. But one of my biggest issues with him is he hates scheduling good teams. I still remember when we played Georgetown on national TV. After the game he was asked if a game like this helps the players. He was all annoyed and said NO.

We've already played teams with Smith at the helm that I never imagined we would ever play!

Go Aggies!

Stew wanted a home and home, so he didn't often schedule good teams.
