Matt Mitchell

Post by Real Life Aggie » January 15th, 2021, 12:51 am

First of all, I hope he's not injured and he's able to return to full strength next game.

I'm rewatching the game, and saw that at 14:35 in the 2nd half, he kinda bounces on that injured leg, almost exactly the same way he later injured it. He's treating it a bit cautiously, stretching it out a bit.

I'm wondering if he isn't working through some things with that leg, not unlike Sam working through some ankle issues last year that were kept on the down low.

It seemed like maybe there was some perspiration on the floor that caused him to slip slightly and then catch himself hyper-extending that knee. I really hate to see that happen. Hopefully he's back on Saturday.

I will be very surprised if it is not an ACL type injury

I bet it's an MCL sprain or something like that. I'll be shocked if he plays tomorrow.

I have not seen any reports and I doubt that we will. Even if he is not playing I would think that SDSU would not want it out there. If I had to guess I would say he does not play. He seemed to be limping quite a bit leaving the floor. It is a really quick turnaround for Saturday morning.

Only report I’ve seen. Doesn’t appear to be serious. Not sure if he will give it a go.

Sounds like MRI results will be back in the morning.

Unless they’re waiting for a second opinion from another group of Radiologists, perhaps out of San Diego, it doesn’t take over 24 hours to get an mri read. If reports are true that he was at practice yesterday in shorts and no brace with full weight bearing activity on the knee, I’d say they know he didn’t tear anything and will decide today on his eligibility depending on how he feels pain wise. If there was any question on a tear he wouldn’t have been walking around yesterday without an immobilizing brace.

I had an MRI this week, and the radiologist report was completed, posted, and available for me to read on my app within 75 minutes of completion.

Based on these reports i would guess he plays. If SDSU wants any shot at the regular season crown this is a must win game for them. It will be a battle, the aggies better be ready.

Yup, that’s a pretty typical turnaround. Sometimes if the mri is done too soon soft tissue damage may be obscured by inflammation, so if there’s still a question they’ll keep it immobilized and repeat the MRI a few days later.

In case anyone is wondering, my MRI results were good. I’m cleared for the game this morning and I’ll be leaving for the drive to Logan in about 20 minutes.

Regardless of how long it takes to read the MRI, it will be less time than the full on rehab and exam given on the floor during the game.

Good to see that it likely isn’t long term though.

Good to hear it's not season ending. The guy is a good player, has worked hard to get in shape, and isn't cocky on the court. Get well soon Matt.
