Interesting Post from the SDSU Board.
Kind of crazy to think we were the 5th most efficient team in the country over the last month even adjusted for the competition.
"Utah State's season has been really interesting. They got off to a rough start losing to VCU, SDSU (the fake one), and BYU. After that last BYU loss, their Kenpom rating was in the 110's.
However, since that game, they've been on an absolute tear winning 8 straight and raising their KenPom ranking about 60 spots.
If you use T-Rank (which is the same idea as KenPom, but let's you slice data in a lot more ways without paying), and filter for games since December 6 (the day after USU's last loss), they've been the 5th most efficient team in the country according to T-rank, behind just Gonzaga, Michigan, Baylor, and Tennesee.
Two things about that:
* It's adjusted for quality of opponents. So even though Utah State has played some terrible opponents, they amount they are beating them by is roughly how much you'd expect the #5 team in the country would beat them by. Obviously it's easy to beat a team like San Jose State, but few teams will beat them by 55!
* In that span, Utah State has not played a single quality team. They've played 8 consecutive games against teams ranked 265 or worse. So while they've been extremely efficient (even after adjusting for opponent), they have not played anyone. It is difficult to say if beating San Jose State by 55 translates to beating a quality opponent.
With that said, it will be interesting to see which Utah State teams turns up these next to games. Sweeping the Aggies would be huge, as it would set us up for a 10-game stretch against cupcakes of our own where we can hopefully start gaining ground in the MWC since Boise and USU have impressive records but are only just now starting to play teams in the top half of the conference."

We definitely pass the eye test lately. Ball movement in the 1st half was awesome. A little sloppier in 2nd half, but the defense was great again all night

It takes time to get things going.
Apparently it only takes a few hours for the show to have a meltdown on Twitter.

I liked that they called out South Dakota as "the fake one".

The fact we went from letting the fake one run us out of the gym to us putting forth a great dominant defensive performance in beating the real one shows how far we have become. The win tonight meant more than the previous 6 combined. We are for real.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑January 14th, 2021, 10:11 pmI liked that they called out South Dakota as "the fake one".

South Dakota State isn’t terrible and neither is Vcu. The a10 isn’t a bad conference and has probably been better than the mwc in recent years. BYU is terrible, but they have an excellent basketball team.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 14th, 2021, 10:12 pmThe fact we went from letting the fake one run us out of the gym to us putting forth a great dominant defensive performance in beating the real one shows how far we have become. SDSU doesn’t know squat. Anyone who thinks their team would just roll in any 3 of those games i

BYU actually won at SDSU this year. SDSU isn't as dominant as they have been in the past.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑January 14th, 2021, 10:22 pmSDSU doesn’t know squat. Anyone who thinks their team would just roll in any 3 of those games i

I'll say this--they were definitely in the top two of the SDSUs on our schedule.
