Re: Queta Draft Buzz
He doesn't have a jump shot. He's older. He's already been evaluated previously. He plays on a very small market team.
He also doesn't show a lot of improvement with his post scoring. His strengths, of course, are that he can dunk, pass and block shots, but the other players that will be available are often more capable and play in larger markets.
Lastly, the NBA is a league that is leaving the old days where you depended on a center that could post up and score. It's more of a league where the center needs to knock down 3s and 20 footers, which Queta hasn't proven capable of doing.

Currently projected to go in the late part of the 2nd round. Last year his injuries hurt him. I imagine we'll hear more "Queta buzz" over the next few months if he keeps up his current play. If he keeps playing well, I could see him going in the first part of the second round.

I wonder if NBA medical teams will have concerns about his legs. He seems a bit knock-kneed.

I expect someone to draft him in the second round. He's probably a taller, less athletic version of Jordan Bell.

Nothing wrong with a 2nd round. How long's it been since we got a second or first rounder before Sammy broke the tape?Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 12:18 pmhttps://www.nbadraft.net/nba-mock-draft ... -mock=2021

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

1986 Greg Grant.

Greg was actually picked in the 6th round. We have to go back to Brian Jackson in '81 who was a second-rounder. I believe Nate Williams was our last first rounder, but I may be wrong.

This is probably unpopular but I would agree that his draft stock has gone down. I love that we have him and think he has played great at times this year but I have not seen the dominance I expected. The real test will be how he plays against some upcoming very good competition.

Don't remember where Grant got picked but going back to the Nate Williams era I know Marv Roberts also got drafted somewhere in the early rounds though not a 1st rounder. Those were some great teams.

Re: Queta Draft Buzz
There’s a lot of haters here. Statistically he is having one of the best years of his career and he is projected to get drafted by most big boards. I think we are starting to get used to his success.
NBA still uses big men but not like they used to. They used to have them back down and score but now they have them screen, pass, roll, and defend. All things that Queta is excelling in this season!

Frankly, if he can’t make it in the NBA, he had go back to Europe and make bank. He is witty and funny and a pretty good player. I think he could be a fan favorite on a European team.

Re: Queta Draft Buzz
How is Orlando Robinson from Fresno State projected to go before Queta? Both 7'0" centers, but I know which one I would prefer. I think if Queta took the off season to work on his outside shot and became a threat on the perimeter and came back and showed he could knock it down, his stock would sky rocket.

I dunno...I think Queta is not anywhere close to having a perimeter shot..so way more than just an off season job it seems like...aggies1 wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 5:50 pmHow is Orlando Robinson from Fresno State projected to go before Queta? Re: Queta Draft Buzz
The guy is career 50% 3 point shooter. He has only shot 6 3s but if I am a NBA GM I am thinking that is something to work with anyway. He is not going to be a good 3 point shooter his rookie year, but has potential to be decent for a big man with the right shooting coach.splintorb wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 5:58 pmI dunno...I think Queta is not anywhere close to having a perimeter shot..so way more than just an off season job it seems like...aggies1 wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 5:50 pmHow is Orlando Robinson from Fresno State projected to go before Queta? Re: Queta Draft Buzz
He definitely has the frame and athleticism. He is a very good passer and defender. His offensive development had been a bit slow and now he is a couple of years older. He sometimes has problems finishing in traffic and tries to finesse it when he needs to go strong. He has a good chance to get drafted, but not a lot of juniors and seniors get picked in the first round. He would be a good G-League guy - get some good NBA coaching and work on his game.

Re: Queta Draft Buzz
To emphasize this point, Queta has 38 assists. He’d have more if some of the players he passes to weren’t so willing to make the extra pass themselves.
If this were hockey, Queta would have about 55 assists.

Re: Queta Draft Buzz
I can't see him leaving millions in Europe on the table to play G league. I think 15-20 years ago he's a lottery guy because there is so much to work with his low post moves and passing out of the post. In today's soft joke of a league where 7 footers have to be able to shoot 3s I think he's going to make a lot of money in Spain.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 8:11 pmHe definitely has the frame and athleticism. I just have to say, when I saw "Queta Draft Buzz", in the back of my mind I was thinking "did he knock back a few brewskies at the White Owl?"

If we can make a good run in the Tournament and show well in the process then his stock will climb exponentially.

Re: Queta Draft Buzz
I would never say that he can’t be, but I do not anticipate Queta being an NBA player. I don’t think he has an nba skill set. It’s definitely possible he’s able to develop once he’s officially a professional.Real Life Aggie wrote:Queta's going to be in the NBA. I don't understand why this is a question.

I'm back and forth on this...but, he is somewhat similar to Capela in the NBA with size/weight and play style, and Capela is doing just fine in the NBA...BleedAggieBlue0 wrote: ↑January 11th, 2021, 1:25 pmI would never say that he can’t be, but I do not anticipate Queta being an NBA player. Re: Queta Draft Buzz
The problem is Queta can only show so much in the college game where the floor is more congested, the paint is more narrow, there’s no illegal defense, and the refs love to call charges.gomretat wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 4:35 pmThis is probably unpopular but I would agree that his draft stock has gone down. We shall see what Queta does against someone his own size. If he owns Mensah, I think there will be a lot of buzz.
