MWC Player of the Year race
Here's the rank according to Ken Pomeroy's analytics (typically spot on with enough data points)

Re: MWC Player of the Year race
Where is Alston? Honestly stats may not prove it but he will be in the conversation especially if they are close to top of the conference. My guess is mvp goes to either Mitchell, Alston or queta and dependent on which team finishes first. Roddy maybe as well If csu finished first.
With that said I believe queta defensive presence makes him valuable than any of these guys.

Re: MWC Player of the Year race
Sure, if Boise State is the top of the regular season standings at the end of the year, he'll probably win it unless there is some other just incredible standout. I don't know how you put Matt Mitchell ahead of him right now. Alston scores more on a better FG%, gets more boards and assists and his team is on top of the standings. I hope Queta wins it and believe he can.

As much as I love Queta, I don't think he has any chance of winning it.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 10:13 amHere's the rank according to Ken Pomeroy's analytics (typically spot on with enough data points)

The dude is in great shape this year. That's a critique of the past.

Re: MWC Player of the Year race
Interesting that Hamilton is so high. Do you get rewarded for volume of shots taken? That guy hasn't seen a shot he doesn't like!
Mitchell played well last night to rescue the Aztecs from falling to Nevada but take away his huge scoring night against BYU (35 pts) his stat lines have not been MVP worthy. Even with that huge performance against BYU he is only a 15 (pts), 4.9 (rbs), and 1.8 (assts) per night guy. He averages about 3 TO's a game, which is a bad ratio. Those are decent overall numbers and maybe if SDSU wins the conference he gets it because he is the best player on the best team but Queta has a greater impact on a game. Queta has slightly less point average but would be the same if you take away Mitchell's one game outlier against BYU. Queata has over 3 more rebounds, nearly double the assists and half the turnovers. Add in the blocks and defensive element and Queta is clearly more valuable in my mind.

Absolutely agree with you, also, Queta has the best PER in the Mountain West and the 20th best in the NCAA.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 1:09 pmInteresting that Hamilton is so high. Do you get rewarded for volume of shots taken? That guy hasn't seen a shot he doesn't like!

Re: MWC Player of the Year race
If the season ended today Queta is your hands down MWC player of the year. Look for voters to try to find a way not to give it to a USU player.

Re: MWC Player of the Year race
Didn't we get player of the year, freshman of the year, defensive player of the year and coach of the year all at once 2 years ago? I can't get myself worked up on being hated by the MWC right now. I am too busy gloating over SDSU right now.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 10:32 amIf the season ended today Queta is your hands down MWC player of the year. Re: MWC Player of the Year race
Yeah, I don't think the voters have anything against USU. They usually vote for the best player, with maybe a bit of an advantage to the best player on the best teamsam tingey wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 11:48 amDidn't we get player of the year, freshman of the year, defensive player of the year and coach of the year all at once 2 years ago? Re: MWC Player of the Year race
I came here to say the same thing. Matt looked great last night, and I'm guessing he has a lower body fat ratio than 98% of this board. Ironically, during covid, I'm at about a 98% ratio myself...AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑January 8th, 2021, 12:09 pmThe dude is in great shape this year. That's a critique of the past.
