Queta and Bean

Post by dogie » January 6th, 2021, 10:11 pm

A question about each player:

Did anyone else count six blocks for Queta, with 5 in the first half and one in the second? He was credited for only three. Can official stats be revised based on post-game review of video?

Why did Bean sit out about the last 15 minutes of the game? It looked like he was fine on the sideline.

Guessing Craig liked what he was seeing from Fonz and Bairstow, and figured he'd let Bean and Brock save some legs for Friday. All the bench guys gave great minutes tonight -- Ashworth is getting the hang of things too. Rollie was off tonight.

IIRC we didn't turn it over against the famous NM press once (maybe in the last few minutes with the euros in?).

And yeah, the official scorer at Lubbock Christian must have been watching C-span during the first half. Queta got jobbed.

The announcers even mentioned several times that Queta's blocks weren't being counted for some reason. They can change it after the game but they don't do it very often unless they are trying to get a player over a record. If a player finishes their career 2nd on an all time list for rebounding or blocks by only 1 or 2 they'll sometimes review footage and try to find a couple more.

I thought he had 6 also. The box score had him with 4 blocks.

Changing stats happens almost weekly during the football season. It's far, far less common in basketball. Source: I was a statistician for USU athletics.

That move of Queta's where he dribbled around the guy on the low block and threw it down in traffic with two hands was a thing of beauty. I would like to seem him attack the basket in that way more often when he doesn't get double-teamed. He sometimes lets himself get pushed off the block and forced into a fade-away baby hook that doesn't go in the basket very often. He can be a dominant force on offense if he attacks the rim more often.

Does anyone remember Josh Grant at the U of U seeming to have his stats padded all the time?

Looks like they increased Queta's blocks to 5.

I've seen that a few places too but the official box score says 5.

Sounds like "The Legend of Queta" is being created. "He was 8 feet tall and had 8 blocks one game" "I heard it was 18" "It was 18 and he blocked two for the other team too and helped a disadvantage kid with is homework during halftime".....🙂

The box score on the ESPN app had three when I went to bed last night. It had four when I woke up and (as you have mentioned) it now shows five.

One of the six purported blocks was not indisputable and I think five could be correct.

The Associated Press game recap, which was written just after the game ended, has him with three blocks. http://www.espn.com/ncb/recap?gameId=401262576

That move was incredible for a 7-foot dude. So nimble and quick. He was a beast last night.
