Euros
So most of them played in garbage time vs Air Force. None of them did well. I really don't think any will be an impact player on this team. Just shooting skills alone would be showing by now and none of them have shown they can shoot well vs 2nd team players.

Re: Euros
I'm willing to give them some time to acclimate to US basketball. For one thing, the ball they are using is a different size than the one used in Europe (about 1" difference in circumference). Our guys struggled with the "chip" ball last year and it's the same size as ones they have used since junior high. Just a different feel.

Re: Euros
You're talking about the 3 freshman that have played in a total of 9 games? Not sure we really know anything about any of them yet. I think a lot more patience is needed.usu99 wrote: ↑January 1st, 2021, 6:06 pmSo most of them played in garbage time vs Air Force. None of them did well. Re: Euros
I tried to search but Search isn't working. However, I would hazard a guess that there were posts regarding one Diogo Brito during his freshman year (and probably his sophomore year as well) along these same lines. But there is an adjustment that most international players need to go through. Queta is a rare exception for Utah State players.
It would indeed be a wonderful world if every player that we brought in became an immediate all-league player. It would be a pretty good world if every player that was new was an immediate impact player. But they aren't. And won't be in a program that is balanced by classes of eligibility.
Wondering if the bench players are sufficiently talented when their only minutes is mopup time in a blowout doesn't acknowledge that someone has to run the scout team plays in practice. And to do so means that you don't really know the team's offensive plays as well as you will when you move up the charts.
Expectations for the end of the bench to be game ready are unrealistic in my view. We played 10 bench players against Air Force. There is no way that Coach Smith is working on getting 15 guys game ready.

Re: Euros
They will need some time. Brito was not effective his first 2 years and was solid his last 2 years.

Re: Euros
In other news, Tim Duryea was his coach the first two years and Craig smith was his coach the last 2 years.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 1st, 2021, 8:03 pmThey will need some time. Brito was not effective his first 2 years and was solid his last 2 years.

I enjoyed Craig’s comments about szymon on the post game. I think he will become a contributor for us down the road just from his attitude.

Re: Euros
I am just happy Ashworth and Worster are playing at the level they are as freshmen, and that we are going to have them for 4 more years after this one (if they want to stay 5 years). We have the luxury of giving the Euros time to develop.
