83-48

Post by Aggie formerly in Hawaii » December 31st, 2020, 4:06 pm

I know the opponents aren't great, but congrats on the team finishing the calendar year strong with 3 MW blowouts to open the conference season. Excited to see what they do the rest of the way. I figured they'd beat Air Force, but awesome to see them get a blowout win like this. Hopefully Saturday will be more of the same.

Quick scan of the media guide -- treesap help me out -- but I think this is the first time in Aggie history that we've won three consecutive conference games by 30+, at least back to the Skyline Conference years.

AFA looked like they all went home for Christmas a week ago, didn't touch a basketball for a week, ate Grandma's cooking, laid around on the couch and just returned 15 minutes before tip-off.

Thanks -- that made it easier. And confirmed -- not since at least 1953.

Awesome win for the aggies. I know AF is no world beater, but the Aggies are playing at an extremely high level on defense right now. Tonight the 3 shot started falling, if that continues this team is going to be really good. We need the same focus on Saturday because AF will be ready. Miller is playing really well right now. Bean on the offensive rebounds is a true weapon. Bairstow is playing a lot more in control and is carving out a really solid spot. They seem to really like playing with each other.

AFA looked very much like a lower-echelon MWC team. But it should be remembered that they have a (first ever) win at Nevada. So it's not quite the same as the wins over SJSU, who appears to be just bad. (Though I hope they win a lot of games this year.😉). I think that Joe Scott just didn't have the manpower to offset our defensive prowess. We had 11 steals - ELEVEN. For this game the Princeton offense (after the first 4 minutes) gave up more steals than they had assists.
And you have to believe that Scott chose the zone for the whole game because he knew that he had no defensive answer for Queta. Zones are supposed to hurt poor shooting teams. The Aggies shot 52+%.
Joe Scott has got a significant strategy problem facing him for the next game.
By the way, I did notice that he watched at least one of their free throws, so maybe that superstition is behind him.

Additional note: Last year in the blowout Queta played 18 minutes due to foul trouble. Today he had no fouls.

We had more offensive rebounds than they had total rebounds with 15 minutes left in the game.

I still had PTSD from last year, this game was exactly what I needed.

A great way to finish 2020. I hope we can keep the intensity for the next game.

I loved how many times the broadcasters mentioned back to back championships and looking like we could threepeat.

They also mentioned the AF win at Nevada about 3000 times.

We will win today, but it won’t be nearly as easy.
