Shooting

Post by mcaggie1 » December 18th, 2020, 7:48 pm

Boy are we cold. Poor FT shooting. Poor FG shooting, and poor 3pt shooting. Did they think all they had to do was show up? Hopefully we will settle down and get some kind of an offense going.

started off the game on fire, but then went into a long scoring drought. We just don't have some good shooters. It is our biggest issues right now.

I brought this up in chat during the VCU game and was laughed out of the chatroom over that comment.

Name 1 shooter that coach smith has recruited. I’ll hang up and listen. (Note that Ashworth was a Duryea commit.)

i think worster can be a solid shooter as well. he needs to be more confident in taking them when he has seperation.

Worster will be a shooter.

I am certainly starting to question Smith’s recruiting. So far it’s two pretty major hits in Queta and Worster, a good but really limited player in Anthony, and then a buncha guys that either haven’t panned out or won’t pan out. I was drinking the Kool-aid with the Euros and McChesney, but they’ve yet to see the floor.

I think it’s probably time for a little more diversity on the staff. :noidea:

Any idea what happened? Did a strong gust catch him and blow him down Old Main Hill?

Poor guy can’t catch a break. Image
I actually think McChesney would be playing significant minutes had 2020 been a normal year and had he not missed so much key practice time. He’ll be a player for us yet.

I think Smith got them to turn up the defensive pressure in the second half, and that helped the offense. Good piece of coaching.

Still unproven, however Zahar and Max are shooters also.

Yeah, I think the question with these two is whether they have the athletic ability to get shots off and defend at the D1 level.

The question with Zahar is not whether he can get the shot off. It's the other stuff. Understanding what the coaches expect him to do in each play, dedicating to the defensive end and staying committed to that.

I think we're going to see Max slowly improve. They're both just frosh.

They've both shown serious promise in my book. Just gotta get the defense up to par and learn the system.

Yeah, they showed enough tonight that I have hope for them. We could really use their shooting.

I’d say Zahar seems a little more athletic than Max based on the eye test, and therefore, probably has the higher upside of the two.

Shulga's defending was shockingly bad last night.

I like Zahar's taller size over Shulga. Shulga just seemed to get overpowered easily. I think Zahar is a bit of a loose cannon though, thus the reason the coaches aren't trusting him to make the best decisions at this point. Hopefully he can get that taken care of so we can get his shooting and scoring ability into the game more. I think he could be that offensive spark off the bench that we need.

I really liked what I saw from Zahar. He was extremely aggressive. There was no “let’s work my way into the game.” He came right in and as soon as the ball was in his hands, he let loose a deep 3. It didn’t go in but he did make a few 3 after that at a good clip. He drove and finished well. I think we could really use his offense in games. I’m sure it’s the system and defense and knowing where he’s supposed to be but I really hope he figured it out soon. We will be a better team if he can.
