Merrill hasn't gotten in yet, but I found this link.

Expect a couple pop ups when you try to load the video.

Looked like he got a steal as well from Boban, if they credit it to him.

Edit: They did not credit him with the steal. He knocked the ball away from Boban under the hoop and it went out to the three point line and was recovered by his teammate. :noidea:

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but Jordan Norwa (the 45th pick) got burned quite a few times on defense there at the end as well. From what I saw no one scored on Sam.

Wanted that jumper to go down so bad. So far though productive minutes when his name has been called. You can tell the Bucks feel very confident in his shooting. They run a lot of plays to specifically get him the shot.

I think Sam’s game fits well into the NBA. He is playing against backups but he doesn’t seem outmatched and he moves around pretty well. And he has only played around 10 min total in the NBA and has 6 points which ain’t bad.

Malachi Flynn had 17 points in 19 minutes tonight. 7-12 from the field, 3-8 from three

This is cool but expected. I want to see him go cross a guy over, get to the hoop, and draw the fowl like we've seen him do over and over again at USU. Looking forward to seeing him play with increased minutes. Divincenzo whose in-front of him on the depth chart only has 10 points in 40 minutes of play thus far. Sam could do better :)

I have thought the same. Divincenzo is not that good. He turns the ball over a lot and is not much of a scoring threat. He is faster and more athletic than Sam but his defense hasn’t been much, if any, better. Sam is much more a weapon on offense because he spaces the floor not to mention has scoring ability. The bucks need all the help they can get in on the offensive end.

It’s very possible I’m seeing through my blue goggles but Sam should take some if his minutes.

Sam should be playing with Flynn at Toronto. Idk why my Raps drafted fellow MW guard Jalen Harris one pick before Sam. He hasn’t even contributed this preseason.

I've heard that Sam refused to be pigeon-holed into a 2-way contract which is why a few teams passed on him (specifically the Suns and Warriors) in the second round. Good for him, found a great situation.

This is 100% true. There were 5 teams that wanted him to agree to a two-way deal if they drafted him. Sam bet on himself and won.

Do you know which teams? I was reading an article about how well the Heat have been developing their G-league players. Not that I would have wanted Sam to go that route, but it would be interesting if they were one of the teams interested in him. That might not have been a bad option if the Bucks offer hadn't come along.

Hard part about d league for Sam is definitely his age. He doesn’t have the luxury of developing for 2 or 3 more years in the d league. Fortunately he doesn’t need it.

From my understanding, it's actually pretty rare that those in the late second round ever get anything other than a two-way contract. Typically only those at the beginning of the 2nd round draft get offers like Sam did.

That's exactly why Sam passing on the two-way offers was a gamble.

I was under the impression that 2- way contracts in the NBA are for undrafted players only. I thought if they are drafted that takes the 2 way of the table. Is this incorrect?
It didn't sound that way to me.
From my understanding, it's actually pretty rare that those in the late second round ever get anything other than a two-way contract. Typically only those at the beginning of the 2nd round draft get offers like Sam did.
That's exactly why Sam passing on the two-way offers was a gamble.
Glad to see that Sam is clutch af even in life.

My uneducated guess is that he wanted to be paid and felt like it was either a good NBA contract (not 2-way/G league) OR making bank overseas? Fortunately, he got a good NBA contract :-)
