Whatever happened to......
.....1. The guard from Wasatch Academy/Toronto who played here two years and then transferred to Marquette?
2. The guard from No. Idaho College who played with Anderson, committed to USU then decommitted and went to Florida?
I have forgotten their names. I think both should be playing their senior years at their respective institutions.
Thanks.

Re: Whatever happened to......
Koby McEwen had what I would call an average junior year and will probably perform very similarly this season.BobWilson wrote: ↑December 1st, 2020, 10:28 pm.....1. The guard from Wasatch Academy/Toronto who played here two years and then transferred to Marquette?

RayQuan Evans had a mediocre year. Averaging 3.2 ppg and 1.2 boards.

Re: Whatever happened to......
Koby averaged 9.5 pts, 3.2 assists and 5 rebounds last year for Marquette. Pretty solid player for them in 25 minutes a game.
This year he has played in two games and is averaging 13 points, 1 steal, 2.5 assists.
Shot 29.2 percent from 3 last year. Which is pretty terrible. but is off to a hot streak this year, shooting 44 percent from 3.
As previously mentioned: Rayquan is averaged 3.1 points last year in 11 minutes a game. This y ear he is up to about 15 minutes a game, but still averaging about the same 3 points or so.
Hope that helps.

Koby's shooting last year was atrocious. Hope for his sake it improves this year.

Last year Koby played with Marcus Howard. A fellow guard that averaged 25+ Ppg. I’m sure his offensive touches were limited.

Re: Whatever happened to......
And Brendan Bailey - he left for the NBA draft. Unfortunately, that phone never rang. I don't know why Bailey felt like he had to go back to Marquette to play when there were just as good of teams right in his home state to play for. His mother has always been one to have an elevated opinion of herself (I've known her since she was about 5 years old) and it has carried over to her kids, I see.

Nah Brendan is about as nice and polite as they come. He was done with Marquette and after serving a mission his age meant try and get paid now rather than transfer.Yossarian wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2020, 10:08 amAnd Brendan Bailey - he left for the NBA draft. Re: Whatever happened to......
I can attest to this. I had Brendan over for dinner a few years back and he was a very nice young man and wasn't full of himself at all. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for him the way he probably wanted. Hopefully he can move forward and achieve whatever he wants to achieve from here on out.brian5562 wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2020, 11:11 amNah Brendan is about as nice and polite as they come. I honestly think we won back 2 back MW championships because Koby left.

Re: Whatever happened to......
I think the combination of firing Duryea, hiring Smith, and bringing in Neemias Queta had more to do with it.

Not sure I agree on the Back to Back, that is from Smith and Queta....but Had koby stayed, Sam would still be in his shadow. Not because of talent but because Koby was a ball hog and a bad teammate in the locker room. Heard that from a reliable source

Re: Whatever happened to......
I feel like Sam was already putting Koby in his shadow sophomore year. After multiple MWC player of the week awards we started hearing rumors that Koby was looking to transfer. He didn't like being second fiddle.kofdog wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2020, 11:29 amNot sure I agree on the Back to Back, that is from Smith and Queta....but Had koby stayed, Sam would still be in his shadow. Which is hilarious and somewhat ironic that he transferred to a school where he was even more a second fiddle.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2020, 12:47 pmI feel like Sam was already putting Koby in his shadow sophomore year. Only my opinion but I don’t think we have the success we do the last two year with Koby on the roster. Pure speculation.

Re: Whatever happened to......
It depends. With the athletic gifts McEwen had, if he bought into Smith's system (big if, but we're speculating either way), I think we do even better. A creator to complement Sam would have elevated us to another level.

This made me curious. Sophomore stats (2017-18 year) for the two:hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2020, 12:47 pmI feel like Sam was already putting Koby in his shadow sophomore year. Koby: 15.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.2 apg, 3.0 TO pg, 0.8 steals; 40% FG, 33% 3PT, 75% Free Throws
Sam: 16.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.8 TO pg, 1.0 steals; 50.4% FG, 46.6% 3PT, 84.4% Free Throws.
Sam thrived off of being the "second fiddle". His 3PT percentage was unbelievable. I feel we sure could have used Koby's athleticism defending the perimeter these last two years.

Speaking of whatever happened to..... I checked out what JK3 has been up to at SUU. Over 3 games, he is averaging 17.3 pts, 5 rebounds, 6.3 assists. I think athleticism like his is something that we are missing.

I agree. Having JK3 would have been a bit of what we needed last year... and this year again. Interesting that he made the BigSky all-academic team. Isn’t academics one of the reasons he had to leave USU? Glad he seems to have gotten things together.HPAGGIE wrote:Speaking of whatever happened to..... I checked out what JK3 has been up to at SUU. Maybe that is an indictment on the academic rigor at Southern Utah University.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 4th, 2020, 9:27 amI agree.
