Perimeter Defense

Post by Bigd23 » November 27th, 2020, 6:40 pm

Our perimeter defense seems to be really bad which will likely be exploited by BYU just like it was last season. We had really bad perimeter defense last season too and seem to be content with letting teams take three pointers and hoping they miss, which really hurt us against VCU.

If you watched today's game twice the announcers called out Ashworth for leaving his assignment and allowing an offensive player for Northern Iowa to hit an easy three when Ashworth had nowhere else he needed to go or be.

At least adjustments were made in the 2nd Half. Marco did a good job defending their star.

The second-half defense especially perimeter defense was really good tonight. But it really frustrates me when our guards are out on the three-point line and they sag back towards the paint just stay on your guy and don't let them beat you with the three.

Agreed. Both VCU and Northern Iowa shot much better on threes in the first half than second half, but we've now given up three point percentages of 42%, 56%, and 38%. I hadn't even realized the 56% to South Dakota State which is crazy high and was the same as their overall field goal percentage.
