Home games
Any info on fans being able to attend games? How many fans, when tickets go on sale, etc? I just checked the ticket webpage and it still has 2019/20 season info on it.

Re: Home games
One thing to consider is that despite the allowance of 5500 fans at football, having no fans at basketball isn't out of the question. For one thing, it's riskier to allow alot of people indoors cause the virus can circulate more easily in an indoor arena than an open air football stadium.

nothing will be announced as far as fans or tickets until they get the schedule set. every team is waiting for the release of the schedule.

Re: Home games
I could see there being some limited fans in the stands.
The GEICO Top Flight Invite which has some of the best high school teams in the country took place over the weekend with fans. It was clearly limited and masks were being worn, but that is better than nothing. I would be very surprised if there were no fans allowed for the entire season. I could see some preseason events without fans though.

Re: Home games
Hartwell had announced an expected 10-20% of capacity for basketball when they announced football ticket numbers. That would be around 1,000 to 2,000 tickets if they stick with that.

If that is true, it should be 100% students.

Re: Home games
Sorry, but students don't donate thousands of dollars to the program. I understand they pay the fees, so they should get some access, but the boosters and alumni will bring more money in.

Re: Home games
No, but they are the future donations of thousands of dollars after we're gone. The enthusiasm for those things is developed in college for most folks. I could see it both ways.sstrasser wrote: ↑October 30th, 2020, 12:41 pmSorry, but students don't donate thousands of dollars to the program. Re: Home games
While a lifelong fan, my Agdiction started in full while being a student. And while not a big donor due to my own limitations, I'm a consistent donor. I have a daughter who's hoping to be able to attend this year after her return from a just-shy-of-18-months hiatus. Student time will cement her fandom as well. She's going into a much more lucrative profession than me.
Re: Home games
Just heard today that local high school winter indoor sports will limit spectator capacity to 25%. I wouldn't expect USU basketball to go any higher than that level at most.

Re: Home games
I was talking to a basketball player and the hope was 1500 students would be let in. I did the math on that though and if they were to only occupy the student sections that would be 30-40% capacity. I think that’s a little on the optimistic side.

You know, this would be a good year for hecklers to have their heyday. With less arena noise to drown out the taunting, those insults could really carry in the Spectrum.

Re: Home games
I see no reason to have the allowed fans be 2500 students and 0 Public as opposed to 1500 students to 1000 public or something like that. Besides giving the students the chance for the experience, you gotta let the community have the chance too to keep them kind of into it.
For one thing, it will be a case of "You snooze, you lose" for students who don't get tickets in time, rather the cutoff is 1500, 1000, or 500. And the students who are future big donors do realize the need to limit fans this year. With how few people become high dollar donors to athletics, it's highly unlikely the 1501st fan is likely to be hardcore enough to donate in the future.
That said, I wouldn't mind the BYU game being a "students only" crowd.

Re: Home games
I have season tickets so obviously I would love to go to the games. But at the same point we have one of the toughest if not the toughest home court advantage in the conference. I would much rather have the students in if anyone gets to go just for the fact that it would be more of an advantage for our team to get wins.

Re: Home games
It seems possible, maybe even likely, that the schools in Nevada and California will have no fans in the stands..Maybe, no basketball at all..

Re: Home games
If we are going to use that as a rationale for student-only crowds, then maybe we would do something like have the BYU, Nevada and San Diego State games be crowds of 2500 students, while having other games something like 1500 students and 1000 public.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2020, 6:28 pmI have season tickets so obviously I would love to go to the games. Re: Home games
I would be surprised if there was 500 students who were willing to go nuts being socially distanced. I would be surprised if you found more than 100 students who would even stand the whole game. On a good night last year there was only around 200 students waiting in line to get it when the doors opened. If there are 4000 student section seats and we are running at 25% capacity (1000 students) there's a good chance that the diehard fans won't even be able to make it in to every game. I guess what I'm really hinting at is a healthy mix of students to fans is what's going to happen and be fair.

Re: Home games
Right after the football game on Thursday, Washoe County is going to limit all gatherings to 50 or less, even outside. I think similar restrictions will be going up in Vegas and all over California as well.
If those MW schools do indeed play basketball it will likely be with no fans..
Any amount you get, no matter the makeup of the crowd will be better than nothing..

Re: Home games
17 percent for basketball with seats spread out in the upper portions of the arena.

Re: Home games
Hopefully we don't go the route of BSU. They have emailed their season ticket holders with the info that NO fans will be permitted inside Extra Mile arena (at this time, anyway).

Re: Home games
I suggest we give all 1700 fortunate fans noise makers and cutouts and make them sign a contract that they need to cheer like they are on the front row of the HURD section. Maybe even have auditions and noise measurement tryouts to determine who gets the tickets.
