What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
Give me some comebacks in our history to give me the warm and fuzzies so I don't think of some of our collapses as much.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
The last game of last season has to rank number #1 for me. We were down by double digits in that game.

Jalen Moore comeback was pretty fun when he came in for Kyle Davis against Colorado St in the mountain west tournament.
I looked it up. Down 9 1:35 to go. Jalen hit a 3 got two steals, offensive rebound and hit both his free-throws during that time. Amazing. Butterfield hit a three and all his free throws too.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
This is the game that came to my mind first. I remember we all looked at each other in shock and amazement when the final buzzer rang like we couldn't believe what we just witnessed and that we were still in the tourney.sneed wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 8:25 pmJalen Moore comeback was pretty fun when he came in for Kyle Davis against Colorado St in the mountain west tournament.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
The LSU game last year was a great comeback as we were down 19 in the second half. Even though the LSU game was great, the goat for me was against #5 SDSU with Sam Merrill hitting the winning shot!

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
Vague memory on this one, but it seems like we were down by more than a possession with less than 10 seconds left against the whY in the early 80's when one of their players punched Tann Tueller. The ensuing free throws and possession leading to a score won the game for the good guys. I was quite young, so I question my recollection of this one. Anyone who remembers more, please fill in the blanks or provide a correction.

For me it was SDSU last year. With all that was on the line. Best basketball game i have attended. Also the NM game in the tournament was super special being down 11 in the 2nd half to come backvk and win was awesome. The LSU game last year is also up there.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
Yeah love the LSU game last year. I have never been so engrossed in a game that I was following on the espn gamecast on my phone. The San Diego State is an all time classic and might be the greatest Aggie game of my life.
One I'll throw out that I don't know how many remember and I don't even remember the exact year. I believe it was 1996 we were down by 20 to Pacific in the Spectrum and came back and won!

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
I have seen some good ones, but the one that has stuck out to me was a game in 1970 against Air Force. If I remember
right we were trailing by 10-12 points with about a minute to go. It seemed like Marv Roberts hit a couple of shots and then
Nate Williams took over in the final seconds. I remember him shooting a shot at the foul line that missed and then literally
jumped over an Air Force player to get the rebound and put back the winning shot.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
That game was in the Huntsman Center during Greg Grant's junior year. USU had won there the previous two year's on last second shots and the Ute fans were tired of it. At the time of the time out they had no idea that there was a scenario that could play out to a USU win. But it went that way.cdaAg wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 11:20 pmVague memory on this one, but it seems like we were down by more than a possession with less than 10 seconds left against the whY in the early 80's when one of their players punched Tann Tueller. FWIW, the next year Grant was going for a career sweep in the Huntsman Center. When he fouled out with minutes left, the place went into a frenzy of heckling. But a young Kevin Nixon took over the game, sent it to overtime and the Aggies won yet again. Greg Grant was 4-0 in SLC just down the road from his home on the hill.

A trio from last year, the LSU game, followed by the UNM game comeback, without this the top one ever would not have happened, the best game of the 2020 post season SDSU.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
Your memory is OK but fading. I was at the game and it was definitely against the UofU in SLC. I recall we were down 11 with 2:22 to go and even making a modest comeback all hope seemed lost until a late timeout and Tann Tueller, sitting on the bench, makes some comment to a U player walking by who then proceeds to punch Tann, two free throws ball out of bounds and a score to give us the lead and a defensive stop for the win. I don't think Tann played 1 minute but he was MVP of that game. Looking up records it seems it was 1984 with USU winning 93-92.cdaAg wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 11:20 pmVague memory on this one, but it seems like we were down by more than a possession with less than 10 seconds left against the whY in the early 80's when one of their players punched Tann Tueller. That game was in a stretch of 4 years in a row that we won by 1-3 points on the road against the U. One game we make a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to win. Another year the game was tied and the U had the ball, we get a steal and a score in the closings seconds for the win. I think I was at 3 of those 4 games, amazing!!!

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
I would say the comeback that happened two years ago. USU was on the brink of completely falling into oblivion and then a coaching change was made and...... voila! USU became relevant again - even winning back-to-back MWC tournaments.

I think this one would make my top 5.

Tyler Newbold with the game winner. We held NMSU to just two points in the last 5 minutes of the game. Without this comeback we don’t go on to the WAC championship.

It was great. Pretty remarkable to see the change in the program. We went from people not believing we could compete in the MW to two time champs right away. Remember that guy that posted on here and was a big Tim Duryea fan? I hope he is doing well.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
The NMSU game where we the Ags shut them down for the last five minutes also had the most entertaining extracurricular activities. My memory's a bit fuzzy as to chronological events but if I remember right it involved Big Blue stealing Pistol Pete's gun, an attempt by Pete to blindside tackle Big Blue at half court with a running start which Big Blue took standing, and a take down of Pete by Big Blue under the basket. Good times!

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
I can remember some of those. Blue ripping Pistol Pete's mustache off and getting suspended from the next game. Pacific students baiting and then brawling with students from our student section at the Big West championship.kuyaadams wrote: ↑August 12th, 2020, 9:07 amThe NMSU game where we the Ags shut them down for the last five minutes also had the most entertaining extracurricular activities. Tann says he didn't say anything to him, he was just cheering on his team and said the utes were choking. He also said he didn't actually hit him, he swung but "I roped-a-doped him."Coloraggie wrote:Your memory is OK but fading. I was at the game and it was definitely against the UofU in SLC. I can't remember the exact year and have never been able to find any highlights for it. But sometime during the Tai Wesley era we had an amazing comeback/game at Hawaii. The main parts I remember were Brian Green coming in and hitting some huge threes. Wish I could find the highlights for it

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
This is the best USU comeback I've been at in person. I remember thinking that it was redemption after the Pacific meltdown. I also kept thinking of this game last year as we had our meltdown in Boise.
In terms of USU comebacks that I remember, I'd go with the SDSU MW tourney game this year as the best just because of what it meant, but there were some other great comebacks this year as have been mentioned.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
This one won't rank at all in importance, but a few years ago when Weber was in town, they were up on us by 15 or 18 or so at the half and we ended up beating them by about that same amount. I hated that first half, but the second half was fun!

Yeah I remember that. I didn't go, but that was a game like the LSU game this past year that I had a fun time checking my phone every 5 minutes and seeing the Aggies getting closer and then taking the lead and then winning.

The comebacks this past season against LSU and SDSU, because they were both against teams that actually matter.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
CDAAG. I think the game you are thinking of was when we were playing BYU in the Spectrum. We had Greg Grant my cousin in his senior year. We were down by 1 with 10 seconds. The y had the ball. They had Averon Parrish from Logan high, a traitor. In the USU timeout Greg didn’t like the defense called. He said all night long the y has been throwing it in to Parrish. Greg said he always goes to his left, so I can steal the ball from him. The y threw the ball in to Parrish. He went to the left and sure enough Greg with his huge hands stole the ball and dunked it. The y missed a last second heave from back court and we won. It was truly one of the finest moments I have witnessed
D in Aggie basketball. I was sitting right where it happened close to the visiting teams tunnel.
You know Greg in his 4 years and playing the y twice a year back then never lost to BYU. Greg was 8 - 0 against them.
Last years Sam shot overtook Greg’s play . That will always be the shot heard round the Aggie World.

Re: What is the best comeback in USU basketball history?
Ave Parrish was actually from Las Vegas. He played high school there. I was surprised he ever went to the Y. BYU had 2 starters from that Dixie team that won the NJCAA national championship, including Brent Sneider. Our own Dan Bell was on that team as well. Ricky Henry was another kid from Vegas on the Dixie team.troutputz wrote: ↑October 7th, 2020, 2:16 amCDAAG. I think the game you are thinking of was when we were playing BYU in the Spectrum.
