for a guy that has only been playing for ball for 3 years he looks really good. We don't get too many 4 star recruits.
We actually have only had two 4-star recruits.
I thought we've had a few over the years MacEwen, Jalen Moore, and Jordan Stone come to mind. Not to mention McChesney. :headscratch:
4-star? No. Koby, Jalen and Jordan were not. Jalen and Jordan were not even close. Koby was close and may have been an ESPN 4-star. I guess when I refer to 4-star, I'm always referring to 247sports, for obvious reasons.
If mcChesney was a 4 star why did we sit him last year? Seemed like there was a lot more hype of Bairstow than him. I’m not saying the decision was wrong I’m just curious why? I heard we thought we were set on shooters and that’s why we did it but is that the only reason?

McChesney was too lean last year.

The scouting report on McChesney was that he was a stretch four. a 6'10" guy that was labeled the second best outside shooter on the team behind only Sam Merrill. Looking at the team's three-point shooting percentages, the second best shooter on the team seems to have been a pretty low bar. He came in rail thin and didn't really appear to have put on weight during the course of the season. If he can indeed stretch the defense and shoot from three, he will be a valuable player on the next basketball team that USU puts on the floor, whenever that will be.

Most of these young men fill out more naturally as they continue to mature, work out, eat right, all that. I'm excited to see this team play...here's hoping we have a season!

So was Reggie Miller - last year and every year.

Who would win in a strong man competition between Reggie Miller and Tayshaun Prince?

McChesney got really sick at the beginning of the year and he lost like 15 pounds (that he didn't have to lose) as I remember it. I believe that played into the decision to redshirt him as well.

Why wasn't Queta a 4 star recruit? Did he just develop incredibly quickly under Coach Smith and begin hitting his stride?

Are there recruits that were never evaluated, and potentially would have highly rated?

Neemias had ZERO shot at getting rated because he showed up in August and immediately enrolled for the 2018-19 season. Had he been a recruit for the 2019 class he would have easily had the time to get evaluated and rated.

Both basketball and football recruits end up not getting rated all the time. Especially at the G5 level. Since I've been affiliated with 247sports, I try and get all our recruits evaluated and rated.

In addition to being very light for his frame, I doubt McChesney would have found minutes with Bean and Anderson playing as well as they did at the four. There wasn't any room in the rotation for him (while there was some for Bairstow in the backcourt) so redshirting him was a smart option over playing him 100 minutes the whole season and wasting a year of eligibility.

I would have played him at the three last year.

Have never seen him play, but I can say with certainty he's not a four.

He’d be a stretch 4. You’re seeing less and less traditional 4’s in today’s game.
