Without Sam Merrill there is no way we finish #1

You are probably right. However we do return two of the top players in the league in Bean and def Queta (Top 3 player returning in my opinion if returns to full health and improves conditioning). Not many teams in the league can say that. When evaluating the league there are not many big guys better than these two let alone having two of them.

I think there are 3 tiers right now with the top tier SDSU, USU, UNLV, Boise and Nevada. A second tier with Wyoming, Fresno, CSU and UNM. Then a bottom tier of Air Force and SJSU. However I think there is still a long way to go to next season and alot can change.
If Bean or Queta were elite perimeter scorers I’d feel better about it. Their skill sets are a little redundant.

Agreed 100%. We need someone who can take over at the end of close games. Not sure we have that at the moment. Although one could argue that only usu and SDSU truly had that in the league last year.

I do recall some of stews best teams had 5 guys average double figures. Granted this was against the big west and wac but maybe we can do something like that and still be one of the top teams in the conference.

Harris was Nevada's closer..He was very good at the end of games. So was Stevens from CSU

It is too early to really determine which teams are going to be good or not so good yet. Not all the teams have filled their roster and there could still be turnover.

Correction
Utah State
Projected Starters:
1. Sean Bairstow
2. Marco Anthony
3. Brock Miller
4. Justin Bean
5. Neemias Queta

Key Losses: Sam Merrill (Graduation, GOAT), Abel Porter (Graduation, Starter), Diego Brito (Graduation, Starter), Roche Grootfram (Graduation, Reserve)

Bench: Alphonso Anderson, Nigel John, Liam McChesney, Rollie Wooster, Steven Ashworth, TREVIN DORIUS, KUBA KARWOWSKI

Key Additions: Rollie Wooster, Steven Ashworth, Nigel John

Notes: Easily the best group of big men in the league. The question is do they have the guards.

We better hope that Anthony is a baller and that Bairstow learns how to play under control. Miller was pretty lousy all year and he's not a ball handler, he's not even a shooter this point. Not sure why he's even a starter. So, it's them or the new kids. There's a truck load of question about the guards.

I think you hit it right on the head on why we need a grad transfer guard who can score 12-15 ppg like others have mentioned even if Anthony can be that guy as well.

Regarding your comment on miller. He seemed to improve his shooting a bit in a reserve role. So I think that makes sense for him (although he shot well as a freshman maybe he can get some things figured out over the off-season). Either way the people to replace him in the starting lineup right now are either incoming freshman that we don’t know what they’ll do in d1 basketball or as many hope on here a grad transfer that allows the freshman to get their feet wet. One other possibility I think is go big and have Anderson/possibly mcchesney play the 3. Per sources mcchesney will be the best and most consistent returning 3 pt shooter. Need to find some ways to get him in the lineup. Which I think means to get creative and have he and Anderson get some wing mins.

You are probably right to put them there as I was trying to put the guys most likely to get mins. They probably will get time ahead of John. Just hopeful that new recruits can come in and compete right away.

This is a great example of why a solid unlv program benefits the conference. Solid basketball from them can really boost the national perception of the conference.

You can scratch Hendrix off the New Mexico line-up. Announced today that he is transferring. From Utah, to New Mexico to who knows where.

It seems that New Mexico might be losing several guys that were very talented but maybe needed an attitude change.

Fresno lands a JC point guard.

Also Niven Hart (a solid freshman for Fresno) declared for the draft. I think it is highly unlikely though that he actually stays in the draft.

Wyoming with a new commit. Jeremiah Oden. Went to prep school. At one time had a lot of interest.

Wyoming claims to have the top class this year per rivals. I think Linder is going to make them competitive pretty quickly.

Article about Seneca knight. Really cool story.

A key to sjsu improving is being able to keep its top players. In this case it looks like Seneca will be there another year.

I believe in another thread Spuds thought it was 50/50. The question I have is whether he has retained an agent? I don't see him listed in any mocks that have done 2 rounds, so I'm wondering if he still might be eligible to return. I guess G-League is another option.

Yes..It is my understanding that he received some positive feedback and it is possible he can get some individual workouts with teams as the lockdown loosens. I would have love to have him stay but he is a level headed kid with great parents and is due to graduate this summer. I am rooting for him. No complaints

Just to clarify, IF he has an agent, and still doesn't get drafted, does that preclude coming back? We went through this with the Queta thing last year and can't remember what the final verdict was.

Tavian Percy from New Mexico to transfer, who never could crack the rotation. There roster was completely full and this opens a scholarship. There is a possibility JB White (see link below) may reclassify from 2021 to 2020 and sign this year. If so that is a heck of a freshman class with him, javonte Johnson and bayron Matos.

It doesn't say "several head coaches"... I mean, TD and Rice would together constitute "several coaches".

Joking aside, I very much like the idea of higher-caliber teams... They do better, it increases their NET, and makes our wins look better. Bring on the challenge! Plus, competing against better teams forces us to improve as well.

So..I really have no idea if there will even be a season and lot of MW teams have players from other countries who may not get to the States anytime soon but because I am bored:

In no particular order I see the top 4 teams in the MW as:

Boise State

SDSU

CSU

UNLV.

I think any of those teams could win the MW and get a first round bye in the tourney.

I think you can throw the rest into a pile of "who knows how it will go."

While I think USU has 2 top bigs, I am unsure of your guards and I think college basketball is a guard's game..

Nevada will have one of the youngest teams in the country so they are a complete question mark..

NM could be good but they have not done well the last few years..

I think the MW looks like 1 bid league this season..My guess..Boise State...Just a hunch.
