He said BEAM teams. Referring to the balance beam, that's one of the events in which the athletes compete.

To that, I would simply say, speak for yourself.USU78 wrote:Men's sports are rituals/passion plays/battles before the city gates. Remember your Homer. These things actually matter to us.
Women's sports are interesting and enjoyable at times, but don't really hold our interest. They don't matter to us unless we have a personal stake.

Re: Women's Hoops
Men's sports is a sociological phenomenon. Women's sports is something quite different. Crowds don't lie.stang wrote: ↑March 25th, 2020, 11:41 amTo that, I would simply say, speak for yourself.USU78 wrote:Men's sports are rituals/passion plays/battles before the city gates. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: Women's Hoops
^^^^100% this. As I have read through this thread, I have had the same thought. It is not sexist or discriminatory to say that women's basketball is not entertaining, nor does it make anyone less of an Aggie fan. People can argue all they want, but (low) ticket prices and (lack of) attendance would suggest that most people across the country don't find it worth their money or time to watch women's sports compared to the alternative. I hope that the USU women's basketball team does well, they deserve the opportunity to play, and I am happy for the new coach.

Re: Women's Hoops
I've watched my daughters play volleyball, which I enjoyed, and basketball, which bored me to death. It took me awhile to figure out why the difference. Pretty simple...in basketball they have to run.

Re: Women's Hoops
Does anyone know if Emma Dudley is still on the team? She disappeared off the box scores late in the season.

She’s still on the team. She just had a lot of injury problems throughout the year.Jjoey52 wrote:Does anyone know if Emma Dudley is still on the team? She disappeared off the box scores late in the season.

Re: Women's Hoops
Of course the men's team is bigger stronger and faster. If one is just looking for the best basketball team that would be the Jazz, after all the are bigger, better than what USU men's team offers.

Well it's unfortunate that you, and many others, feel that way. Maybe one day this old school, mysoginistic mindset will die off and people will just be able to appreciate watching basketball because they enjoy the sport.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑March 26th, 2020, 7:50 amHe is speaking for himself, me and many others. Re: Women's Hoops
“Mysogynistic (sp) mindset”? That’s a cop-out. Interest in a sports team is a matter of A) the quality of the product B) the competitiveness of the team and C) affinity and association. If one has affinity (and all Aggies should for any Aggie team) but competitiveness and quality are lacking then interest wanes or disappears. Why on earth would you say it’s because men hate women?stang wrote: ↑March 26th, 2020, 11:01 amWell it's unfortunate that you, and many others, feel that way. I like women’s gymnastics much more than men’s. Do I have antipathy towards my own gender? Nonsense.

Naw. Forget that. Gratuitous namecalling isn't that much fun. Especially when one is engaging with a crowd-following [or in this case, no-crowd-following] politically correct but wisdom and experience light extra slight but overwrought nonspelling simpleton.

I try not to name call even if I have been called one because when you respond to name call by doing the same thing you have lowered your self to what you believe they are.
Women's sports are here to stay, as per the LAW, and it is the right thing to do. Like women's sports USU receives very little funding money from men's tickets sales so it would appear that all athletics at USU relay on tax payers and student fees

Re: Women's Hoops
Currently I would prefer to watch the U.S. women’s soccer team rather than watch the U.S. men’s team, even though I believe the men’s team would win 10 of 10 games if they played against the women’s team.
Gender doesn’t really differentiate my interest in watching golf, tennis, track and field, volleyball, hockey, lacrosse, mma, etc. When it comes to basketball, I’m much more interested in watching men’s basketball.
Am I misogynistic?

To that I would agree. Olympic Sports are generally entertaining to family friends and friends of those mentioned. I have a viable stake in AGGIE Football and Basketball, actually more in football. 78 has noted crowd draw is a measuring tool, and I would concur.
