One more year for Sam/Brito?

Post by FormerlyVegasAggie71 » March 13th, 2020, 11:30 am

Looks like spring sport senior athletes will be given another year of eligibility. NCAA looking into what to do with those that played winter sports. Would be fascinating if they offered another year of eligibility to Seniors in winter sports??

So far they've only announced Spring sports. Basketball is considered a Winter sport.

I hope this happens, i selfishly also hope Sam and Brito would return. We would be hella good and sam would be the greatest scorer in USU and MWC history!

If he could return he should not and most likely will. He needs to start to get paid for playing he is older because of being a missionary. Sam is gone regardless as is Brito.

I just don’t see anyway the NCAA would grant an entire extra year for players who mostly were down to their last 1-2 games anyway.

Exactly, spring sports seasons are far more impacted. It makes little sense to grant an entire new season, when it was essentially played out. I get there is disappointment about the NCAA tourney, but a whole year for a handful of games?

You think Sam ‘I Am’ is old at 24? Hell my cousin Greg Grant was 27, time he got out of USU!

There is no way this rule would apply to winter sports. You arent getting a full year because of at most a few games missed. Merrill would be gone regardless and should be. Time for him to make money as a basketball player. Sad the one milestone he didn't accomplish was taken away from him. We will never know if he could have led us to a tourney win this year.

Sam has already been asked specifically about this in an article and said he would not come back in that scenario.
