Onto recruiting season
How many spots remain?
Any real updates on Stall on if he will be on the team next year?
Did Anderson get his extra year?
Do anyone have stats on the new recruits?
Is there any transfer coming our way?
How many are in their final year next season?
Did the NCAA put that new purposed transfer rule in place?
Who do all expect to be our starting guards to be next season?

Re: Onto recruiting season
I have to assume Klay Stall is done at this point and that we have 2 spots available. I also have to assume that 1 spot is probably going to someone with PG like attributes that is either a grad transfer or JC transfer.
1. Alphonso Anderson SR
2. Kuba Karwowski SR
3. Brock Miller JR
4. Neemias Queta JR
5. Marco Anthony JR
6. Justin Bean JR
7. Sean Bairstow SO
8. Liam McChesney FR

10. Steven Ashworth FR
11. Nigel John FR

14. Carson Bischoff JR

I imagine the depth char to look something like this:
C) Neemias Queta, Kuba Karwowski, Trevin Dorius, Nigel John
F) Justin Bean, Alphonso Anderson, Liam McChesney
G) Brock Miller, Sean Bairstow
G) Marco Anthony, Carson Bischoff
G) (New PG Recruit), Rollie Worster, Steven Ashworth

No one is at fault. Injuries got Stall, and he was a great player in high school.

USU has been more than generous to Stall. It is time to move on and have somebody with that scholarship to be able to contribute. I hope nothing for the best for Stall in the future.

Wow, we still have a solid roster. We'll miss Merrill like hell, but the cupboard isn't bare like I originally thought. I'd still like a confirmation that Queta will be back next year. I would assume he is because I think the injury set him back and he still needs to develop to be in the NBA.

I believe 22 said that Queta is back. I do believe no one individual will replace Merrill, but I think that the team could be better next season than this season's team.UStateTim wrote: ↑March 12th, 2020, 4:25 pmWow, we still have a solid roster. Re: Onto recruiting season
One positive out of not playing in the tourney is that Queta may stay. Had we done really well in the tourney he may have been gone.
However, I would much rather have a cinderella run and lose Queta than have him stay and not make the tourney next year.

I assume you're talking about Kobe Webster out of Western Illinois. It sounds like he's going to end up at Nebraska, so we can probably cross him off.
My far and away #1 choice is Justice Hill at SLCC.

From a post that earlier I made this month, I state the following what we need to replace:
Stats per game from seniors this year that needs to be replace next season
Regular playing seniors which means Grootfaam is not consider in the following stats
Points per game
Merrill + Porter + Brito = about 34
Rebound per game
Merrill + Porter + Brito = about 13
Assists per game
Merrill + Porter + Brito = about 10
Steals per game
Merrill + Porter + Brito = about 3
Assist/TO
Merrill + Porter + Brito = close to 2

Re: Onto recruiting season
I hear good things about Hill and not having seen him play, I'll have to trust the opinion if those that have.
A few concerns:
34% from three
65% free throws
Average home attendance of 139 people
We have several guys that struggle with three point shooting, we don't necessarily need more
Can this guy play in front of a crowd? Both home and away? There will be more than 139 people razzi g him at games.
I was strongly in the camp of "we need a traditional point guard". That felt like something we were really missing. After watching the USU defend in that MW tournament with their length, and watching our 6'5" guy shoot over the top and muscles his way tio the hoop against more traditional guards, I'm thinking that is the way to go. Bigger guards that can really shoot from outside. Even better if they can handle the ball a bit. This may be the answer.

I imagine the depth char to look something like this:
C) Neemias Queta, Kuba Karwowski, Trevin Dorius, Nigel John
F) Justin Bean, Alphonso Anderson, Liam McChesney
G) Brock Miller, Sean Bairstow
G) Marco Anthony, Carson Bischoff
G) (New PG Recruit), Rollie Worster, Steven Ashworth
PLEASE, PLEASE Coach Smith replace Miller in the starting line-up next year!! I'm really intrigued by Liam McChesney. In a recent interview with Al Lewis, he (McChesney) claims to be close to 6'11 and everyone says he's a lights-out shooter (Coach Smith himself compared his game to a poor man's version of college Kevin Durrant ). Anyway, I'd love to see a line-up next year like this:
Starters:
PG - Marco Anthony (6'5")
SG - Sean Bairstow (6'7'')
SF - Liam McChesney (6'10'')
PF - Justin Bean (6'8'')
C - Neemias Queta (7'0'')
Reserves:
PG - JC Point Guard, Rollie Worster
SG - Carson Bischoff, Brock Miller
SF - Alphonso Anderson (primary score off the bench, first sub in at SF or PF)
PF - Nigel John
C - Kuba Karwowski, Trevin Dorius
Probable Redshirts:
Steven Ashworth
HS SG/SF
Good luck guarding that team!!

I keep seeing people say that Anthony will play PG. He was recruited as a forward out of HS. Can he really play PG? We need an actual PG that can bring it up the court when pressured.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Dorius is given a scholarship. He’s developing well and will be a significant contributor, especially when Queta leaves.

Question 2 - No definitive word on Stall. He did just have surgery on his back.
Question 3 - The waiver request has NOT been submitted for Anderson yet. It can't happen until the summer.
Question 4 - I'll see what stats I can dig up for you.
Question 5 - I won't be surprised if we add a grad transfer AND a JuCo guy. A scorer is needed.
Question 6 - As it currently stands Kuba and Fonzo would be seniors but I'm confident that Fonzo will get a 6th year.
Question 7 - The new transfer rule has not been ratified YET. Final vote will take place later this summer as long as the world hasn't imploded from the coronavirus pandemic.
Question 8 - Marco Anthony and likely a guard to be signed later.

I do think this is a good point. Our length really bothered teams on defense this year and kept us in a lot of games. And I have heard Coach Smith say Anthony can play all 5 positions on the court.Yossarian wrote: ↑March 12th, 2020, 6:20 pmI hear good things about Hill and not having seen him play, I'll have to trust the opinion if those that have.

After watching the last two years though I still would love to just have an athletic, quick guard that can handle the ball. He doesn't have to be a starter, but just having the skillset available for when it's needed against teams like New Mexico.

Re: Onto recruiting season
Crazy. I fully trust the coaching staff, but I would be really curious to know why they aren't. He's the best player on the #5 JUCO team in the country and was the Region 18 player of the year.
