We are going to remember “The Shot”

In Aggie future lore “ The Shot”. Will be remembered by all of us during this time period. Just like I always equate “The Comeback”. With John Elway coming back to beat Cleveland. Actually I believe it is called “The Drive”.
It would be great if they put “The Shot” on the Jumbotron before the start of every Aggie game at home.

won't be remembered if they don't win any NCAA tournament games.

then again, i don't know how high USU's expectations are. If by simply participating the NCAAs is the highlight of the season, then i guess they can embellish on their conf. tournament finals win.

NCAA tournament>>>>>>>>>ALL. Your team's placement in that tournament will determine how good your season in that particular year is.

Shots like this happen every week throughout the season.

What makes this shot special is it happened in a championship game on national television.

Doing it on Tuesday night at the end of January is pretty cool, but doing it to win the conference championship against a rival during prime placement on CBS Sports on a Saturday afternoon makes it special.

I would say it's the opposite if anything. It would be THE highlight if we lose in the first round. But we win games, the shots in those would stick out over that. It's like the shot by John Stockton against Houston in the conference finals being the highlight cause the Jazz lost to the Bulls both years. That shot would be secondary if the Jazz had been able to beat the Bulls either year.

According to this clown beating #5 SDSU to win the MWC tourney just isn’t a big deal.

Which means he thinks SDSU sucks? I guess.

Sounds like a smart guy.

If he was smart he would say Wow great shot.
You beat an amazing team rather than trash his own team.

Or he is BYU troll which would make sense also.

Anyway I think SDSU is legit and awesome and beating the #5 team in the country on a great last second pressure shot was awesome.

SDSU troll tell us more about how your teamsucks and it isn’t that hard to beat them.

WE, on the Aggie chat board, that love our Aggies, will remember. Trust me that shot just became out highest ranked win. Just go back to your home, for the love of all Asstecs, please.

This is the highest resolution version I've found. You could probably get it printed. I haven't seen any for sale yet.

SDSU must just be bored with nothing else going on in their life to still be hanging around our board making unsolicited comments. Either that or they have come to love it here and will soon be an Aggie supporter. I’m not sure why else they are posting so much on an opponents forum.

I can't tell but it kind of looks like Sam Merrill's wife Kanyan is the woman in the stands 3 rows up by the hoop in the white shirt. Also, I think that is his entire family on the row but I am not sure what they look like exactly. I believe his mom has her head in her hands. If that is in fact his family, that is AMAZING they were all in this photo.

I'm glad we are calling it "the shot" and not "the foul". You can see how obvious it was from this pic though. What is crazy is how the azhat player kept plowing ahead even as Sam came down- he basically got ran over with no call.

It would have been a soft foul for the circumstances of the game. Abel Porter did that or less to an SDSU player and got the whistle. Glad the shot went in so we don't have to debate it.

Watch the follow through, though not many angles show it very well. Forearm definitely takes contact. Defenders arm is moving right to left in the pic here.

Aside from winning the conference title, this shot likely meant a trip to the NCAA tournament. The fact that USU came from 11 down in the final 10 minutes of the quarterfinals and then from 16 down in the championship game against the #5 team in the nation are what made this moment so much more special. As a fan you had to feel like their chances were pretty slim at a couple of moments during the tournament. Climbing all the way back and then having it end like this are why we will all remember The Shot.

I know you are trolling and it is stupid to keep responding to you, but some might actually make this point in good faith, and it is 100% wrong.

Think of all the great moments when Stew Morrill was coach. Only one of them was a tournament win. The idea that people only remember or only celebrate tournament wins is completely inaccurate at every level.

Ok. You are right. Huge game winning shots in championship games are bigger than shots in the middle of games in the middle of the regular season. I don't think a soul would disagree with you.
