Nobody is worried about UNM?

Post by AggieFBObsession » February 29th, 2020, 8:02 am

I'm just curious, because we all know that the Pit is a tough place to play.

What's the status of their roster? How many players did they lose for the season and who?

I was looking at their roster last night. They don’t seem to really have post players. However I agree as this game has me extremely nervous. They have some major talent on that roster.

Road game, tough place to play, against a team that likes to press, and we have huge lapses where we're some weird non-scoring/defending/rebounding version of ourselves. You never know with this team. We've lost to teams we should have easily beat this year.

Im not sure about their roster, I know they've lost a lot of their talent. But, see above

I’m very cautious about this one. There is nothing more dangerous than a team with nothing to lose.

I think the team has given up a bit this year but I have no doubt they will get up for this game considering how we beat them on their home court last year and knocked them out of the tournament last year.

Super worried about this game they have some athletic players and if they get hot it will be tough. We should be feeding the ball indicator on almost every possession they really don't have anybody who's going to be able to match up with him so if they double him there should be some great opportunities for Sam and others to get good looks at 3. Hopefully we can shoot well. The other thing that we should beat them at is our effort, they have not shown much effort the last couple of games maybe they will tonight but Bean could have a very big night rebounding with his effort. Including that we need this game plus one or two more in order to safely be in the tournament this game for sure scares me.

Meant to say feed queta the ball every possession.

We are 8.5 pt favorites. I think we are peaking at just the right time. Ready for a good game and the next couple tournaments.

Three losses in the Pit this season. What else is there to say?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

We have won our last 2 road games but overall the road has been rough this year. In terms of atmosphere there is not much better than the pit. Boys will need to be ready and focused.

When I woke up Friday morning, I saw a notification that our basketball team had lost to UNM, 54-52. I was so confused, before I realized it was women's basketball. Since then, I've been a little on edge about this game.

Oh I’m very worried. Since the San Diego State game this is the game I’ve been least confident about.

Interesting that the Aggies are favored by more than SDSU (5 points) in their game at Nevada.

So far it’s looking like someone had an inkling of what might happen. Nevada up 9 at halftime. We were up at half in San Diego but gave up the lead. We’ll see if Nevada holds on. I’m hoping they don’t but in the end, just win tonight and it doesn’t matter.

Im worried but I think they will handle them. It’s looking like a must win though, I would hate to fall to the four seed.

Queta will be the key to winning. If he doesn't show up it could be a dog fight. If he does, I expect us to win, possibly by double digits. But The Pit is always tough to play. I think the guys will be ready though and Merrill will have a big night.

Sure glad Smith didn’t try to recruit a pg this year. Awesome decision.

3 turnovers. 2 assists and zero points.

The one that makes me really mad was when Merrill layed in that basket and the guy bumped while in the air to the ground.

Hard to be disappointed with 23 wins and a second place finish in a conference we struggled in for years.

It’s disappointing because Merrill and Queta are two of the best players we’ve ever had and Smith didn’t even try to surround them with help. It’s a two man show and they can’t do it themselves.

I’m not having a hard time being disappointed about our bubble likely just bursting in a season we were preseason Top 15 and the only ever unanimous pick to win the MW, but to each their own.

It’s not even Abels fault per se. He is what he is. He never should have been put in this position. He should have been the backup pg this year after Smith went out and recruited a MW level starter after last season.

Absolutely — being mad at Abel for being Abel is silly (though that flagrant was profoundly dumb and I am mad at him for that). It’s on Smith for not recruiting to an obvious need last offseason.

I'm just glad we used two of our eleven available scholarships (after redshirts) on two ground bound bigs who were never going to see the floor under any circumstance. Plus a third who can barely beat out a walkon for minutes. Just fantastic roster construction in this age of three point shooting and positional versatility.
