The race for 2nd
Currently 6 teams that could get to 2nd place. Who has what left?
1. Colorado state (8-4): vs Utah state, at Wyoming, at unlv, vs San Jose, at SDSU, vs Air Force. Espn has them favored in 3 out of the 6. If they go according to that they’d finish 11-7.
2. Utah state (8-5): at Colorado state, at Fresno state, vs San Jose, vs Wyoming, at New Mexico. Espn has us favored in all 5. So same logic as CSU, then we’d finish 13-5.
3. Boise state (8-5): vs Air Force, vs SDSU, at San Jose, vs New Mexico, at unlv. Espn has them favored in 4 out of the 5. So 12-6. The unlv game is basically a pick em.
4. Nevada (8-5): at unlv, at New Mexico, vs fresno, at Wyoming, vs SDSU. Espn has them favored in 4 out of the 5. So 12-6. Just like Boise they are slight favorites over unlv.
5. Unlv (7-5): vs Nevada, at New Mexico, vs CSU, at SDSU, vs Boise, at San Jose. Espn has them favored in 2 of the 6. So 9-9. Again Nevada and Boise are pick ems essentially.
6. New Mexico (6-6): at SDSU, vs unlv, vs Nevada, at Boise, at Air Force, vs usu. espn has them favored in 1 game. So 7-11.
Next week is very important for us. Two tough road games which we haven’t proven we can win this year. Although with queta I like our chances.

Re: The race for 2nd
Awesome writeup. Big games this week. CSU is playing well. They have been off for a week. I imagine it will be a great crowd. Fresno is always tough with how athletic they are. The road has not been our friend this year. Also of note if we are tied with csu, unlv, boise or nevada we would hold the tie breaker since we beat nevada assuming sdsu wins out.

You got the reigning mountain west player of the year trying to break 2000 points on his home floor and you give him 4 fouls in 22 minutes. That’s a jokehipsterdoofus21 wrote:Merrill should be well rested

Especially considering 3 of them were offensive charges. Rarely will you ever see that.

3 very questionable offensive charges. How on earth with all that flopping was not one warning given?!!!

Re: The race for 2nd
Seemed to me like it took the refs a long time to catch on to the flopping then towards the end I know they knew it was happening because the refs would sit there and shake their heads every time a Bosie player flopped. At that point they were choosing not to call the flopping which ticked me off.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 9th, 2020, 1:01 pm3 very questionable offensive charges. I have never liked star treatment. A foul is a foul no matter who commits it. Last night was a tragedy on all officiating fronts. Those guys should be suspended for a game or two for that pathetic display.
Sam got robbed from an incredibly special moment last night because the fouls they called were horrendous.

That’s true, it’s what bugs me most about the WWE, I mean the NBA. I just think Sam should be given the benefit of the doubt from his reputation and control with the ball.dyedblue wrote: ↑February 9th, 2020, 4:23 pmI have never liked star treatment. Sam needs to be more creative on the turnbuckle and maybe sneak a safety razor in his shorts. I can hear the radio call now, "...Sam's on the top rope...!" Maybe it's his "reputation" that is the very reason he doesn't get those calls. Maybe he has the reputation that is going to fall to the floor every time he drives and that is why he doesn't get calls other players would?

That doesn’t get him called for charging when he is dribbling past a guy on the perimeter...Yossarian wrote:hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 9th, 2020, 5:44 pmThat’s true, it’s what bugs me most about the WWE, I mean the NBA. Jazz hands Johnson can duck his head and run someone over like a bulldozer and draw the foul. Anderson our Merrill do anything remotely similar and its an offensive foul.

Yup, this. His reputation for drawing fouls has nothing to do with suddenly being seen as an out of control penetrator.dyedblue wrote: ↑February 9th, 2020, 8:35 pmThat doesn’t get him called for charging when he is dribbling past a guy on the perimeter...Yossarian wrote:hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 9th, 2020, 5:44 pmThat’s true, it’s what bugs me most about the WWE, I mean the NBA. Re: The race for 2nd
All teams won that were predicted. Unlv were slight underdogs to Nevada and lost by 3 in overtime. Still would like to see unlv climb to 4/5. Don’t know if I see it though. Still predicting:
2. Utah state (13-5)
3/4. Nevada/Boise state (12-6)...who would win the tiebreaker? Boise has SDSU this Saturday and then are slight favorites in Vegas the last game of the year. Could Boise drop 2?
5. CSU (11-7)
6. Unlv (9-9)
7. New Mexico (7-11): could fresno catch them?

If we are 2nd boise holds the tie breaker with nevada since boise beat us. That is of corse if sdsu beats them both again.

Re: The race for 2nd
Too soon to tell. It depends on how they get to 7-11, and what happens to the #2-3-4 seeds (currently USU/BSU/UN). Right now UNM has the tiebreaker because of its 1-0 record v. Boise (with one to play), the current #3, cf FSU's 0-1 (with none to play) against the Fighting Dispatchers. But both teams still have games against USU and UN, the current #2 and 4, which could shake up the current seedings.
Nobody here knows anything.

Assuming we get the 2nd, who would you rather get the 7th seed? It will more than likely be NM or UNLV.

New Mexico is pretty squarely in the 7th seed as they are as they lost today and are now two games out of sixth.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑February 15th, 2020, 5:42 pmAssuming we get the 2nd, who would you rather get the 7th seed? It will more than likely be NM or UNLV.

Re: The race for 2nd
I don't see New Mexico winning again this year. They have to go to Boise and Air Force and have us and Nevada at home.
I'm guessing Fresno might end up 7th. They have Air Force and Wyoming at home and travel to Nevada. Should go 2-1.

SDSU remaining 4 games are vs the 4 teams we are competing against for that 2nd spot. That is a pretty tough stretch. Can they beat them all?

I think the worst case would be having unlv at 7 and having to play them on their home court again in the second round.

Unlv winning at New Mexico yesterday (unm was the favorite in that game) was huge for them. They are favored in 2 of their remaining 4 and Boise has Boise as a slight favorite.

Re: The race for 2nd
Nevada looked good tonight against NM. They are playing really well. They would be a scary matchup in the semifinals. There guard play is really strong. NM is kind of crumbling down.
UNLV is absolutely abusing CSU at the half. They are coming on strong as well. UNLV on their homecourt will be tough as well.

I agree Nevada looks improved. The guard line is very good. However I believe we could eat them up inside.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑February 18th, 2020, 9:45 pmNevada looked good tonight against NM. I am hoping unlv gets up to a 4/5. To do that they will need to beat Boise next week and not drop any games they are favored in.

Espn now has unlv as the favorite over Boise.
2. Utah state (13-5)
3. Nevada (12-6)
4/5/6. Boise/csu/unlv (11-7)
If it settles out that way who ends up being the 6?

Re: The race for 2nd
CSU
Even if Boise's 7th loss is to UNLV, they still win that three-team tiebreak for #4 -- 2-1 against the other teams in the tie, UNLV would be 2-2, CSU would be 1-2.
Then: UNLV and CSU split their games, so then you look top down. Both were swept by SDSU (as we all were), but UNLV has a win over #2 USU which swept CSU. So UNLV is #5 and CSU is #6.
Nobody here knows anything.

This is looking really good. I’d much rather play the winner of Nevada/CSU than UNLV/Boise.
