Re: Recruiting
Don't forget Bernard Rock, Mark Brown, Jared Quayle, and Kris Clark.MarioWest wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 11:55 amWhile this is true, it has also been true for at least the last 20 years with the exception of Brockeith Pane's tenure. The Aggies have gone 461-191 in that span, so I'm not overly concerned. And that includes the Duryea years. Teams play full court defense on an extremely small percentage of possessions.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑June 10th, 2020, 12:11 pmIt's looking to me like another year of constant heart attacks every time an athletic team starts heavily pressuring us and playing full court defense.
It is a liability, to be sure, but it's way overblown imo.

Re: Recruiting
It may be overblown but if it is a glaring weakness, opposing teams can use it to force more turnovers and even just a few more per game can lead to a few more losses or a higher likelihood of choking under intense pressure. I hate to remind myself but I painfully watched us meltdown in Boise last year and I couldn't help but think a really solid ball handler could have made the difference in that situation.

Re: Recruiting
Quayle and Clark definitely struggled with the full court press from athletic teams. My memory of Brown is a little hazy so maybe he handled the press better than I remember, but I intentionally started the 20-year window post-Rock.
My point is just that you can have extremely successful teams without a traditional PG that can break a press.

Re: Recruiting
Hey old timers, is my memory bad or was Lance Washington a bad, bad man when it came to breaking pressure? I wonder if I have created in my mind him being much better than he was. Anyone?

Re: Recruiting
What use is a drive and kick if the guy catching the kick can't hit the shot?mcaggie1 wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 1:09 pmWe had some players who could drive and kick........ Just players who couldn't drive and kick fast enough.Bank Shot wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 12:21 pmMaybe my memory needs refreshed, but the only game I recall where full court pressure bothered us was New Mexico in the 2018-19 season. Washington gave us problems with their half-court 1-3-1, but that was more us having a lack of players who could drive and kick. Zone full court pressure relies more on ball movement than one individual who can break it by himself.
Anthony should help. Bairstow showed ability to penetrate, but didn't know what to do with it once he broke through. Hopefully another year of experience will help.

Re: Recruiting
That is what I recall as well. Occasionally he would hit some wide open shots but most teams would back off of him and dare him to shoot. Very good ball handler and penetrated well.

I believe we have moved on to the 2021 class and identifying potential prospects for the class of 2022.

Re: Recruiting
Remember that this is a generic recruiting thread, so don't let that stop anyone from reporting every single human being who might want to play collegiate basketball as a possible recruit. I think we can get to 2,000 posts in no time.

It's titled "recruiting" and while sure some of the players and information posted has been irrelevant, most of it has been relevant in some way and fits the subject. I also love that it's been kept in the same thread and not spread out under different threads on the homepage. This has overall been one of the better threads we've had IMO.utaggies wrote: ↑April 18th, 2020, 11:57 pm20 pages of postings on a topic named “recruiting” from a handful of people who give us a plethora of “who has entered the portal” info. Which one can be the first to post that a Davidson player has entered the portal? Will he go to St. John’s or to Richmond? Not a single word on who our next PG will be. Every few days I check in to see if miraculously there is actual USU info. Each time I’m disappointed. But like a moth to a flame ......hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 18th, 2020, 11:52 pmThis thread is starting to remind me of Cool Hand Luke.

Just another poor attempt at sarcasm. One of these days I will post something that is funny, but apparently, you may need to suffer through a few hundred more tries before I am successful.

Tone and what words are used is key to solving this. ususports, you always have a weird tone to your words all the time. It makes everyone unsure about what is being said from your comments.ususports wrote: ↑June 15th, 2020, 3:38 pmJust another poor attempt at sarcasm. Re: Recruiting
Good for Nigel. I hope he finds happiness and success at Clarendon. It would have been nice to see him suit up and play for the Aggies but, that is fine. I wish him well.

I get the feeling he's still got some juice left in him and the itch to keep transferring. Gotta admire the man, he knows what he wants.

It’s a jc. Probably not a d1 opportunity that he liked and decided to go and prove himself at the jc level.

Re: Recruiting
I think I remember reading that he was home schooled so I have to wonder if qualifying issues came into play. I would have thought that was all figured out though if he signed an NLI at USU.
