Re: Recruiting
Two graduate transfer pgs in the transfer portal.
Brandon Averette: transfer from uvu who had transferred from Oklahoma state before that. Solid backup at Oklahoma state then transferred to uvu when Pope was there. Averaged 12 ppg this past year. Announced on Monday his intent to transfer right after BYU struck out on everyone they were going after. I’d think he will follow pope to BYU but a good option.
Isaiah Washington: transfer pg from Iona. Wanted to get away from papa Pitino . Averaged something like 11 ppg, 5 rpg and 4 apg.

Re: Recruiting
I don't understand, so can someone explain to me why players go through such a long reveal process? Why post "Top 5" or stage signings? Are they trying to leverage anything out of potential schools, or is it just attention grabbing? Are they still deciding and want some hype around it to help them figure out which potential school/fans would be most vocal and interested?

Re: Recruiting
Very same process many of them use the first time they sign. For some it might be attention grabbing and for some it is narrowing the field so the other 15 schools quit bugging them while they work through the decision making process.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑June 2nd, 2020, 2:01 pmAttention grabbing.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑June 2nd, 2020, 8:18 amI don't understand, so can someone explain to me why players go through such a long reveal process? Ugh - UTA. That school brings back memories of the doldrums of USU basketball. The Aggies lost to UTA three times in one season. We were not on good trajectory at that time. I believe that was Stew's final year as coach.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑June 4th, 2020, 11:40 am

Good for Carson, though. Playing ball is playing ball. I hope he does well there.

Anybody know the status of the Potter kid, 6-7 forward that went on a mission? Is he still coming, eventually?

Re: Recruiting
The Utes can't get a new coach soon enough IMO. Hopefully one that's not afraid of the Spectrum.

I think that's as much on the Athletic Department as it is the coaching staffs of the basketball and football teams.brownjeans wrote: ↑June 5th, 2020, 11:15 amThe Utes can't get a new coach soon enough IMO. Hopefully one that's not afraid of the Spectrum.

Re: Recruiting
Cade Cunningham the number 1 overall recruit for this year was supposed to be going to OSU. This should be interesting to see if he withdraws and goes to another school.

If he's anything like the last guy to come over from an OSU, then I think we'll all accept him with open arms.

Re: Recruiting
The asinine thing is, ute fans are actually having a fit over this. Look this isn't a surprise. Other than landing Haarms from Purdue, pope and friends have struck out on everybody else. They tried to pretend they were big-time, it didn't work and now they are getting desperate to fill out their roster. Karma.

Ding ding. Interesting tweet. It is funny that BYU fans is justifying possible misconduct on pope (aka cry baby, poor sport, pre season championship celebrations whiner) part by what happened with collette. Karma to Utah and BYU will get it someday as well.

Re: Recruiting
It's amazing to watch one fanbase (byu) justify shady conduct that includes poaching a kid by hiring his dad to convince him to move schools while another fanbase (Utah) cries foul when their coach is known for the same shady tactics and more - poaching, hiring dads of players, paying players, etc. I agree, karma has come for the Utes and will be coming for byu.slcagg wrote: ↑June 5th, 2020, 6:43 pmaggies22 wrote: ↑June 5th, 2020, 3:41 pmThe asinine thing is, ute fans are actually having a fit over this. A potential guy that may fall between the cracks. Know he was also interested in Alabama but Alabama is waiting on John petty to determine his draft status.

He's got a pretty nice top 5 list. Are all those schools also interested in him? I can't imagine he'd want to come out here.

It's looking to me like another year of constant heart attacks every time an athletic team starts heavily pressuring us and playing full court defense.

I’m sure at one time. But it seems that at least Arkansas is moving in a different direction and I stated the Alabama situation. Re: Recruiting
While this is true, it has also been true for at least the last 20 years with the exception of Brockeith Pane's tenure. The Aggies have gone 461-191 in that span, so I'm not overly concerned. And that includes the Duryea years. Teams play full court defense on an extremely small percentage of possessions.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑June 10th, 2020, 12:11 pmIt's looking to me like another year of constant heart attacks every time an athletic team starts heavily pressuring us and playing full court defense.
It is a liability, to be sure, but it's way overblown imo.

It seemed that New Mexico was really the team that gave us the most heart ache this year.MarioWest wrote: ↑June 13th, 2020, 11:55 amWhile this is true, it has also been true for at least the last 20 years with the exception of Brockeith Pane's tenure. Re: Recruiting
Maybe my memory needs refreshed, but the only game I recall where full court pressure bothered us was New Mexico in the 2018-19 season. Washington gave us problems with their half-court 1-3-1, but that was more us having a lack of players who could drive and kick. Zone full court pressure relies more on ball movement than one individual who can break it by himself.
Anthony should help. Bairstow showed ability to penetrate, but didn't know what to do with it once he broke through. Hopefully another year of experience will help.
