Was the term “spectrum magic” coined ...
... on one of the predecessors to this forum? That’s when I remember first reading it. I vaguely remember a thread where it first appeared. Could be wrong, though.

I coined it in the 80's. I also invented the apostrophe.

If a moderator or anyone is able to search the archives of this board (or its predecessor) for the first use of the term "Spectrum Magic," I am pretty sure we will find that the term first gained common use here.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

We don't ever remove older posts on here and the term has been used since the very beginning of this forum at least. As far as I know, there aren't any archives of the Scout board or the forums that predated it. The earliest reference on Google is from 2009: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/116 ... h-spectrumRabidchild wrote: ↑February 6th, 2020, 8:38 amIf a moderator or anyone is able to search the archives of this board (or its predecessor) for the first use of the term "Spectrum Magic," I am pretty sure we will find that the term first gained common use here.
That predates USUFans.com.

Yes, I believe it was coined on one of the predecessors of this forum.

You can browse through archived versions of the previous forum here:
https://web.archive.org/web/20081223141 ... 208&f=2745
Not all of the individual posts were archived. I could't see any mention in a title.
I also looked through factiva (which is an archive of old newspapers/newswires/blogs) and I coudn't find anything before the bleacherreport article. When did those game-day newsletters start?

Seems like I remember the term surfacing during Jaycee's time, like the year we beat Utah at the buzzer, had the Boise comeback and the Nevada win.

Wow cool to see a SDSU grad on here. All inventions and ideas flow through there right?FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑February 6th, 2020, 6:58 amI coined it in the 80's. I also invented the apostrophe.

I don't know about that; my ideas flowed through midnight visits to the Campus Corner for refreshments.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑February 6th, 2020, 1:17 pmWow cool to see a SDSU grad on here. I also invented the "quadcolon" but alas it never took off like the semi and full-colon.

It may have surfaced before, but I remember a group of us on the front row were using it ~2004. It was in common usage for sure during Jaycee Carroll’s time.
Respectrum was also used during that time. I can’t remember the exact numbers but we had a home court record under stew of 120 something to like 10 or something at the time.
Spectrum on Wheels(SOW) also came about during that same time frame.
Where and how any of them started though, I’m not sure

Whole new meaning to “protect the home court”...

Looks like I was excluding articles about sports on Factiva without realizing it. Here's (the first part of) an article from January 2007 in the Deseret News about USU beating BSU at home by 1. Read the last line in the excerpt Good timing for tomorrow's game?
Aggies close out Broncos

LOGAN -- The basketball gods must have felt they owed Utah State a favor.
Two years ago, the Aggies let an eight-point lead slip away in the final minute in a loss to nationally ranked Pacific, but Thursday night against Boise State, the Aggies finally got payback.
Utah State held the Broncos held scoreless in the final 2:03 and erased a nine-point deficit to post a 80-79 Western Athletic Conference victory.
Chaz Spicer, who hit the game-winning 3-pointer in a win over Utah Dec. 6, converted a three-point play with 7.4 seconds left to complete the unbelievable comeback.
The win left Utah State coach Stew Morrill shaking his head. The Aggies are now 121-11 in the Spectrum under Morrill.
"It's been a special building for a long time," he said. "We don't win that game on a neutral court. We don't win that game on the road. We don't win that game in the park. We had to be at the Spectrum."
With 5:26 left in the game, Boise State's Anthony Thomas drilled a 3-pointer to give the Broncos a 13-point lead. Then the basketball gods came alive.
The Broncos hit just 1 of 4 shots, missed four straight fouls shots, two of which were by Coby Karl, who is third in the league from the line at 85 percent, and turned the ball over four times.
The Aggies, on the other hand, hit 7 of 12 shots, 7 of 7 from the foul line and didn't have a single turnover.
"Spectrum magic, that's about all I can figure out," Morrill said.

Kohn got ‘put in his place’ by the powers that be when he criticized the shark.troutputz wrote:Can you imagine Kendall Youngblood playing for Craig Smith! Kohn just didn’t know how to handle a star!

And he still got punched by a UNLV player.
I also recall one of the earlier local sources running a story on his comments juxtaposing the UNLV player’s cars with Kohn driving his personal car on a recruiting trip to CA. Kohn’s Aggie career was anything but star studded......
