Now vs. Then

Post by BigBlueBlood » January 18th, 2020, 11:41 pm

I can’t identify any material difference between this year’s team and last, except the result. I don’t understand it. Accordingly, I still like this team, but something is wrong. We seem softer and less focused. We’re not deliberate in our play. We’ve suffered from lazy passing all year, and it’s not just Brito. Did anyone hear what the coach had to say?

We played great for 37 mins. I listened but don’t remember much other than he said he needed to have someone other than Brito throw the pass in.

I don’t take any consolation in the fact that we were up on this team by 16 points with four minutes on the road. The fact that we still lost the game is actually a lot more troubling to me than had we played them tight the whole game and lost at the very end.

That is what is so frustrating. The first 36 minutes were probably some of the best minutes we played all year. Defense was good and offensively we were moving the ball well. Then the damn wheels and everything else falls off.

Besides that I would also like to know why we're looking to throw into that corner all the time. We're just begging for a trap and our guys love to pass back under the basket from that corner.

How did this team win a regular season and tournament championship?

The only noticeable difference besides a few bench players and Taylor leaving is the mindset and expectations. Last we we were picked last and this year we were picked first.

based on what I've learned this year from the football and the basketball teams, the Aggies don't respond well to high expectations.

I don’t agree that there is any consolation to be found in this game. But neither do I believe that this loss in the manner it which it happened is less troubling that losing a closely contested game. Just as Aggie fans keenly remember heartbreaking close losses to Pacific and LBS from, respectively, 15 and 18 years ago, 30 years from now we’ll remember this collapse of historic proportions.

The games that I've watched this yr it seems most teams in conference are vastly improved and very athletic. Sam is the only guy who can put pressure on the opposing teams defense. I was shocked at how athletic BSU was. But thats thats no.excuse to lose the game last night.

While we had the high expectations for basketball, I don't know why it keeps getting repeated that we had such high expectations for football this year. We had alot of roster turnover from the previous year and getting the seven wins we got as about what most of us were realistic to expect. We were never going to win 11 games in football this year.

Brito completely panicked on the inbound, throwing it in super fast, in addition to foolishly inbounding it right under the basket and right to the BSU player. Just throw it down to the other end of the court and the game is over, even if Boise steals it like they did on the subsequent inbound pass after the game tying basket (unless they make a half court shot). Honestly, I was surprised that the half-court shot by Boise at the regulation buzzer didn't go in. The fact they were able to take 3 shots in the final 4 seconds, without us possessing the ball, is pretty incredible.

I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

I also expected that shot to go in. In fact, part of me wanted the shot to go in to put a quick end to the misery.

Had we intentionally tried to allow them back in the game, I don’t think it could have happened more quickly.

It must be way easier to play without expectations.

That's the only difference I can think of.

I'm gonna guess they aren't carrying that gas can around with them anymore. Weren't they doing that last year?

Then: let's go earn this win.

Now: we've earned this "win."
