Status of Kuba?

Post by jpswensen » January 9th, 2020, 10:08 am

Is he hurt?

Is he in the doghouse?

It just seems so strange that someone posted a week ago about how his advanced metrics were quite good, but he had 3 minutes against UNLV and 1 minute against AFA. Does that not seem strange to others? I think that Dorius will end up being a solid player for us, but think Kuba has outperformed Dorius in terms of defensive effect (and they are mostly a wash on offense).

Also curious. Early on it looked like he had the same potential Queta showed at the beginning of his freshman year last year. It seemed like with a little coaching up he could become that defensive presence in the middle and allow our perimeter D to extend past the 3 point line a little more. Maybe he just doesn't put in the effort the coaching staff expects? Maybe he's still not physically well?

The old thread on this topic doesn't seem to provide any real insight into Kuba's ongoing stretch riding the pine. Has his effort/attitude really been so poor that he has been relegated to only four total minutes of PT in the last three games, including a DNP against Nevada? Or is he still recovering and needing some time to get healthy? Can anyone offer anything more than rank speculation? He certainly was making more of an impact on the court than Dorius pre-appendicitis, and I hope we haven't seen the last of him.

I don't know. I've been pleasantly surprised with Dorius. A little work in the offseason and he could be a good player for us.

Merely speculation here but watching Kuba during the Nevada game he did not look happy at all. I'm thinking doghouse for whatever reason.

I think it's just a matter of Dorius being abetter option right now and there are no minutes left for Kuba.

Isn’t that just an Eastern European look?

He said he looked unhappy, not that he was squatting on the sidelines in an Adidas tracksuit.

Coach mentioned that Kuba's insicion is still tender and gets hit whenever he sets a screen. They are giving him time
to heal .
