I would honestly not be surprised if we fall out. We didn’t exactly have a week that would inspire a lot of confidence, though I think we’ll be fine.

Re: Rankings Tomorrow
I could definitely see that happening. SDSU could even take our spot. There were a couple of ranked teams that lost though.ineptimusprime wrote:I would honestly not be surprised if we fall out. We didn’t exactly have a week that would inspire a lot of confidence, though I think we’ll be fine.
Ranked Teams That Lost:
#4,5,7,7,11,12,16,17,20,22
Teams that beat these ranked teams may jump us but I think we will bump up a few spots to 22 or 23. I think the news that Queta is back could influence some voters.
Ranking won’t matter though unless we win Friday. If we can make to conference play ranked and SDSU ranked, that would do wonders for the conference. New Mexico could steal some resume building wins, we have opportunities for good wins still. Losses to other top teams also wouldn’t damage us too much.

Why would SDSU jump us? Their awe inspiring buzzer beater win over SJSU at home?

Re: Rankings Tomorrow
1 voter still had the Aggies as high as 15. 27 left us off.
https://collegepolltracker.com/basketba ... ggies/2019
SDSU has 197 points compared to our 160.
https://collegepolltracker.com/basketball/
After 287 there is a big drop off. We're still right there in that group of teams fighting for the last spot. Unfortunately LSU, Saint Mary's and Florida have all fallen way down.

It is what it is. SDSU is undefeated, we have 1 loss. I know they barely beat San José but neither one of our two wins were decisive either. I hope they are undefeated when they come to Logan.
Re: Rankings Tomorrow
I also wanted to see them go undefeated through December until their fan showed up.Aggiesbleedblue wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 10:22 amIt is what it is. SDSU is undefeated, we have 1 loss. Re: Rankings Tomorrow
Let me preface this by saying that I love this Aggie team. They're fun to watch. They play hard. Coach Smith is amazing.
But I'm not sure we've proven to be a legit top 25 team. We have a good record. The LSU win was big (especially at the time). But we haven't been world beaters. If I was a completely impartial outsider, I would put SDSU above us as well. Honestly, there are probably a lot of teams above us. A win at St. Mary's with an undefeated record would still have us in the conversation.
I think if Queta can get back into top form, and the team can really get clicking, we'll work our way back into the discussion. A win against byu and Florida would have considerable impact. But a loss to one or both of those teams would show that we're not really there.

Honestly don't give a care to AP poll basketball rankings. Too many teams, too many games, razor thin margins. I take a lot more stock in kenpom and other metric driven results.

Let SDSU play with the target on their back now. Less pressure for us to right what we need to right.

Yeah, doesn't matter. In fact, I hope we stay out of the rankings just this week, beat BYU, then climb back into the rankings. Just so they can't say they've played (hopefully lost to) a ranked team.

Since rankings only come out on Monday, we are definitely out of them for the BYU game.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 11:16 amYeah, doesn't matter. How does anyone still have Seton Hall ranked with three loses? Also, why did Seton Hall play Iowa State in back to back games?

Re: Rankings Tomorrow
These rankings are generally meaningless. To me the KenPom rankings are a better indicator of actual strength. To be honest we have not played like a top 25 team. We are winning, but it just doesn't feel like we are quite as good as last year (to my un trained eye). I think we will get there, but a lot of it depends on if Andersen can get back to form, Miller/Porter play better and if Queta can get back into game shape with no lingering affects of his injury.

Let's be honest, take the top 2 players that play the 5 are out and ankle injuries to the top 2 scoring guards for any team how well would they fared in those 10 games.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 12:18 pmThese rankings are generally meaningless. We have definitely struggled for various reasons, but we have been winning. That's all that matters. Hopefully with Queta back and some nagging injuries healing up, we'll be good to go.

Re: Rankings Tomorrow
Woulda, shoulda, coulda. We have not played like a Top 25 team regardless. We are not clicking with our outside shots. We won’t win at Nevada, NM, SDS or Fresno, let alone BYU or Florida, if our outside shooting doesn’t improve.SLB wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 12:47 pmLet's be honest, take the top 2 players that play the 5 are out and ankle injuries to the top 2 scoring guards for any team how well would they fared in those 10 games.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 12:18 pmThese rankings are generally meaningless. My point is the silliness of people judging us as we are without injuries (players are going to return to full strength).utaggies wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 1:11 pmWoulda, shoulda, coulda. It's still early in the season, but I'm concerned about our inability to make open shots. This was a problem last year and I thought we had addressed it in recruiting and internal development but we're still not shooting the ball well. Teams will over-play Merrill and clog the middle until the other guys prove they can consistently hit open threes.

Re: Rankings Tomorrow
One thing I didn't look at earlier but USU actually received more points this week in the poll. Last week we had 112, this week we got 160 so we actually moved up in a lot of people's ballots. The difference is that there are simply fewer teams receiving votes this week and the teams at the very bottom are only getting between 1-10 votes instead of 40-50.

Re: Rankings Tomorrow
An interesting development. Thanks for posting that.
Well, I'm not glad we're out of the polls. But I AM glad that SDSU is getting good recognition. They look really good right now, and them performing well only bolsters the conference, and bolsters our wins against them later. Even if we do split it, still good.
Though, I'm concerned that we didn't win the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational Tournament. I don't know if you guys have heard of it... It's a pretty big deal. That would basically be a golden ticket to the Big Dance. Any sane person would recognize that...

That’s true of the AP Poll but in the Coach’s Poll we went from 62 votes (#26) to 32 votes (#28). Before the SM’s loss we were at #15 with 296 votes and trending up.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 8:45 pmOne thing I didn't look at earlier but USU actually received more points this week in the poll. I'm concerned too. It is getting to the point where we have a decent same size. Maybe Queta returning will open it up a bit more, but we have gotten plenty of wide open looks that just clanked.brownjeans wrote: ↑December 9th, 2019, 1:33 pmIt's still early in the season, but I'm concerned about our inability to make open shots.
