Small Forward Minutes

Post by dyedblue » December 7th, 2019, 5:17 pm

There are about 27 minutes per game that need to be redistributed at this position. This isn’t working. Who takes them?

Do you slide Brito up and Fonzo down to cover them with Queta coming back or do we work Bairstow into a bigger role?

Start Fonzo there and back him up with Miller
My two-deep would look like this.
1a. Sam Merrill
1b. Abel Porter (continue to play Bairstow sparingly)
2a. Diogo Brito
2b. Sam Merrill
3a. Alphonso Anderson
3b. Brock Miller
4a. Justin Bean
4b. Alphonso Anderson
5a. Neemias Queta
5b. Kuba Karwowski

I think Miller should come off the bench with Anderson and Kuba.

Its been said before before I like Anderson coming off the bench with his energy and scoring. Also, we are 9-0 with Anderson coming off the bench and 0-1 with him starting. I also like Miller in the game late with a small lead as he is an excellent free throw shooter.

Also, doesn't Brito play the 3 for quite a few minutes? Do you want him to only play the 2? That would limit Brito to minutes that Sam is on the bench, or playing PG.

Anderson started against Fresno.

If Miller could slide into a defensive role player like Newbold became and then shoot the occasional wide open corner 3, he would serve a valuable role. But as it stands he comes across as a major chucker, and killer of momentum. I would like to see a 3 point contest between he and Nick Hammer in practice.

It would likely be the greatest contest of all time.

He does well with his pull up floater. Needs to get past the three with a fake and pull up at 12’ with the floater.

The difference is Newbold could play defense. Sadly, defense is certainly not Miller’s long suit. He’s too slow.
