That turnover down the stretch by Abel that gave St Mary’s the easy dunk and the lead lost is this game. You could feel everything changed in that moment.
No we lost because we kept running under the screen on their shooter.

Yep. Craig is amazing and I’ll take losses like this in exchange for all the greatness he brings- but there’s absolutely no reason he couldn’t run the exact same system with a capable ball handler.

If we have a capable PG that can handle the ball and is quick, then this game is won.

The two issues are both related to the position formerly known as a PG.

Anyone notice that Ford guy? Or that both our bigs are out? And Andersen must have given up 30 points. Lots of reasons we lost.

The eye test and very advanced stat out there says that Abel is just killing us on the court relative to the rest of the team.

We played a very difficult game missing our big men and had a chance to win. No need to point out one player.

Sam misses a front end and turns the ball over and the game is lost JUST because of Abel??? Incredible.

Anderson looked totally out of it in a different role

We don’t have a real elite perimeter defender. Guys that can get to their spot with the ball have hurt us a few times this year.

Porter needs to be a lot better. I’d rather see Bairstow out there right now and shift guys around.

The TO was bad but....
Missing front end by Merrill
Brito bad pass on fast break
Brito steal that was likely a layup until ref

There was a lot of plays that would have helped

Honestly, even with Kuba in we win. Sucks to lose but Abel isn't the reason.

Coach Smith is one of the greatest basketball coaches I’ve ever seen. You’d never get a straight answer from him but man I’d love to here his real answer for why he decided to not go get a PG out of junior college after what we saw at the PG position to end last year.

Felt like Britto was more careless with the ball than Porter. Anderson not doing anything on offense is what really hurt. As mentioned Beans foul trouble as they couldn't guard him. Felt like Bairstow should have played a bit more. His energy and length seemed to be effective.

We lost because of injuries and the refs giving St. Mary's giving them the win.
Brito fast break denied because ref inference lol. Tass should have fouled out many times over, and Bean was not let to play in the 1st half.

Agreed. The one where Anderson got switched and went under a screen when Ford didn’t have the ball was maddening. The screeners defender is already there. Terrible recognition. Going under a ball screen is one thing but that was just terrible.

That turnover surely hurt us, but is not the sole reason we lost the game. Anderson was complete garbage tonight. Brito did not play that well as also. Sam also had some unlikely turnovers. Porter also had 7 assists so let's just keep ragging on the guy. Overall a really solid game for the Aggies. This was not a bad loss. We were right there to pull it out at the end.

You can pick out a dozen plays in the last 6 minutes that "cost us the game", however, that TO by Porter once again dribbling baseline into a dead end was clearly THE momentum shifter that gave St. Mary's the confidence to get over the hump and believe they could win the game.

You are absolutely correct, but good teams find a way to win after that which we did not. The team has to find a way to overcome that.
