Not looking like the 15th ranked team at the moment.

When you have a number by your name you get everyone’s best shot. That’s is not a bad north Texas team.

“They wanted it more than us”, “It was a trap game”, and the always reliable, “We have a target on our back” always make for good excuses.

We might end up being the worst 7 win team in the country by the end of the day.

Ha you don’t make excuses when you win do you?
They only lost to VCU by 3 at VCU is all I’m saying.

Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
Teams get too confident and push through and grind out wins. This will be a lesson to not overlook teams.
Also poor prep time probably on the island. Just wait though when Queta Anderson Bean Brito and Merrill are on the floor together in crunch time subbing Miller and Porter. Miller and Porter need to be ready to nail open threes and feed the post when we have the advantage.

#2 Louisville beat Akron by 6 today
#14 Arizona beat South Dakota State by 7 Thursday
#16 Memphis beat Little Rock by 10 Wednesday
#8 Gonzaga beat UT Arlington by 6 Tuesday
We won by 8 vs North Texas (Of note, #21 VCU only beat UNT by 3)
All of these teams are undefeated and squeaked by mid majors. Good teams find ways to win. We won without much contribution from leading scorer and a defensive/freshman player of the year on the bench. I don't think were the worst 7 win team in the country.

Given that we've only had 7 opportunities to win games, at this point, I wouldn't mind being the worst 7 win team in the country (and I don't care if we are).ThunderAggie wrote: ↑November 24th, 2019, 7:06 pm#2 Louisville beat Akron by 6 today

This is college basketball. Good teams lose games. We are going to lose some games. If you can't take a close college basketball loss, I'd recommend taking up stamp collecting.

Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
We won the tournament, basketball is a game of runs. We are going to lose some games this year, everyone does since the 1970's.
Kentucky got beat by Evansville. I am thrilled with how good this team has been overall without the conference FOY. I hope they continue to improve, I am glad they are winning while they do that.
Utah lost to Tulane this morning. That alone almost made my day.

I wonder if there are any fan bases worse at taking a win than ours. For football and basketball I swear if we don’t blow a team out, we are the worst. Same negative a holes from the chat the other night im sure.

Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
A win is a win guy. Not all nights are going to be blow outs. I actually like to see these close games as they are going to help the team later on. Queta did not play and Merrill did not score a bucket and we won. I will take that any day of the week. I do think we need to start the games a little better. Be interesting to see how we come out and play St. Mary's on Friday. Will probably be the hardest game so far. Hopefully Sam and Abel will be able to get their ankles better for Friday.

Ha ha! You guys. If Liberty wins and Florida beats Xavier,(both look likely) USU will be the only 7 win team in the country.

I honestly don't know if there is. If the basketball team loses at st. Marys the ceiling will be falling. If the football team wins by less than 10 points against nm the board will be talking how a disaster of a season it has been.

We should probably plan to avoid a slow start if we want to win in Moraga on Friday.

Really well said Thunder! I just love watching this team. No matter how sloppy they play they play damn hard. It's nice to be the team that always has a chance. Instead of the team that is always leading then loses some how.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑November 24th, 2019, 7:06 pm#2 Louisville beat Akron by 6 today

Really props of this young team. Back pain be dammed. I'm going to games this season!

Agreed. Call it an excuse if you want but It’s hard to keep winning when you are ranked. I’m grateful for every one we get. Enjoy the rideAggie84025 wrote:I honestly don't know if there is. Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
I'm just glad we won. I have learned to take joy in the wins and have a little less heartache in the losses. We won the game. I think that is something to celebrate. Our guys found a way to win. Serious, that is awesome. We had a good tournament. I hope that we can continue the momentum in Moraga. I will not freak out if we lose. Losses happen in basketball.

Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
Come on man. As one of the board's resident a-holes:
Everyone is happy that we won.
Yes, people in chat are negative when we are losing. In the LSU game that made the board topic- at a time we were down 20, I tried to point out that there is still a long season, that one game doesn't end our season. So I agree, that in the LSU game especially there was over the top negativity.
But it should be put into perspective: the perspective of a passionate fan.
For decades we've been a team that beats up on the Prarie View A&Ms of the world. We'd go 30-3, get a 12 seed and then lose to a decent team from a P6 (now P5) conference. We finally have a team that is hyped up. We have Sam Merrill, and Queta (although he is out), we have a pre-season ranking, we have a good strength of schedule... the LSU game was the time USU proves that we belong. Win, and we'd get national attention. Get blown out, and no one thinks about USU again. We won and we received national attention. But in the moment being down 19 or 21, how did you feel? Was it all gum drops and unicorns? Or did it look like we are a lot further away from where we'd hoped we'd be.
That negativity is called passion. I'm glad we have passionate fans, who care about the program- even if the expression of that passion needs to be fine tuned.
Do you honestly think we will constantly win if we come out playing flat and then "get it together at half time"? Or do you think we can start better and not have to always rely on Bean making an incredible play to stop an alley-oop, or Brito making an interception within the last 60 seconds.
There are lessons we can take from losses and wins. This tournament we've learned we are a team that will fight till the end. But I'm sure there are also concerns that Smith is addressing to make the team better.
If you think we are going to consistently make 20 point comebacks and win against SMC, Florida, BYU (or any other team)- I think the probability of that is lower than you do.
I dont want to get to into it, but this does highlight a very typical "judgmental pollyanna" attitutde that seems to exist in Utah and seems to be less prevelant throughout the country- but that seems like a discussion for another day/ and another board (Sandbox).
Although personal attacks against 22, who is an incredible asset to this board, aren't acceptable- passionate fans should get a pass for being unhappy if we are down by 20. I want more passionate fans.

Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
To be honest, our fan base is a lot better and more optimistic than many. If you looked at the LSU fan board when we started creeping back against them and cutting the lead, those guys were going crazy and throwing swear words out like there was no tomorrow. When they actually lost, it was the end of the world (Although blowing a 19 point lead is pretty sad). Thats why they call us fans...we want to see our team succeed!!! I agree we need to tone it down, but I don't mind calling for changes or adjustments. I think it is just because we know what we are capable of. I totally see why people are frustrated for football as we are better than we have been playing and blowouts verse the zoobies, falcons, and even the broncos should not happen. As far as basketball, I think we are all just a bit afraid of a letdown and that #15 in front of our name is something we are not used too.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑November 25th, 2019, 8:08 amCome on man. When I read through the chat transcript on this board comparing it to the LSU board it was literally no different. Granted it was chat and not the actual basketball board, but none the less it was still not a pretty site.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑November 25th, 2019, 8:23 amTo be honest, our fan base is a lot better and more optimistic than many. Re: We can’t keep starting games like this
I know that my initial reactions within a game can be entirely different from the day after, or even the immediate post game. Anyone in chat just needs to remember that these are all instantaneous reactions to what is happening in real-time. Those types of reactions are always going to lack the clarity of viewing the entire result of the game or season. Just put each of these media into their proper perspective.
