Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
I think these extra tournaments are cool, because they get some exciting opponents. I personally hope we keep playing in them. We never played in them during the Stew years. Is that because we always played in the Gossner's and couldn't play in others, because Stew would never schedule them, they weren't as prevalent, or something else?

Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
The Gossner was the problem. The NCAA allows you to play in 1 of these exempt tournaments each year and the Gossner was ours. We did the South Padre Invitational in 2007.HomeTown wrote: ↑November 21st, 2019, 10:14 amI think these extra tournaments are cool, because they get some exciting opponents. Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
I can only imagine how much $$$ Gossner is saving without its eponymous tournament. I mean, did you see how much Gossner's swag was thrown out? It's been 5 years since I last went, and I'm still pulling random water bottles and toy balls from between my couch cushions.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑November 21st, 2019, 10:18 amThe Gossner was the problem. Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
From what I understand, this is coming from a high level person in Gossners, they still “sponser” a game of 2. I don’t know if that means they pay the opposing team their fee or travel expenses or something. Does anyone have any insight?Real Life Aggie wrote:I can only imagine how much $$$ Gossner is saving without its eponymous tournament. I mean, did you see how much Gossner's swag was thrown out? Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
Do you want to replace going to these tournaments with an in-state tournament in Salt Lake? In addition to USU going to Jamaica this year, BYU is in Maui, Weber is in Florida and Utah is in Myrtle beach. It'd be a hard sale to get any of the 4 teams in the Beehive Classic to agree to that. And if your idea is to bring in bigger teams, how do you convince teams to come to Salt Lake when they can go to Maui, Honolulu, Cancun, Jamaica, Bajamas, Virgin Islands, Myrtle Beach or any of the other tropical destinations that you see teams playing in this time of year?

Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
Had no idea that there was an NCAA rule about playing in multiple tourneys. No worries.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑November 21st, 2019, 1:17 pmDo you want to replace going to these tournaments with an in-state tournament in Salt Lake? Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
The reason is that the exempt tournaments count as only two games (if I recall correctly) against the total number of games played during the season. That’s a big part of the draw of these games.sam tingey wrote: ↑November 21st, 2019, 2:18 pmDon't worry, that very question was my first post on USUFans
I assume (but I’m not sure) that a team could play in multiple tournaments, but they aren’t going to be able to take advantage of the scheduling exemption more than once.

Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
Just make it into a double header with another Utah team with each playing a high level opponent.paaron46 wrote:All these tournaments and we can't turn the Beehive Classic into one. A damn shame, really.

Utah just lost by 22. Looked bad in the process.

Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
After their impressive win over the mighty Mississippi valley you would have thought they were unbeatable.

Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
They only lost because they were focused on their conference schedule, which is probably the hardest in the country. It's kind of like the truthful narrative of everybody wants to go to byu-provo but can't get in. Power conference problems, folks. We have no idea how hard it is for these schools. Rough.

I am pretty sure that the Net Ratings system is to blame. Kry knows that system in and out.

Re: 2020 Myrtle Beach Tournament
If you combine the Mississippi Valley and Coastal Carolina games, they beat both their opponents by an average of 36 points, which is an impressive margin of victory over a team like Coastal Carolina. I think they deserve all of their top 25 votes. Probably even more now.
