We won.

Post by SLB » November 15th, 2019, 9:08 pm

Anderson and Bean were the stars of the game. Combine stats tells the story with 39 points and 16 rebounds which lead the way of a 27 point margin win.
Too many TOs and missed FTs by us.
Dorius outplayed Kuba.
Brito is beginning to look like a starter, and the opposite can be said about Porter. Brito wasn't faze by NC A&T's defense, and Porter struggled with NC A&T's defense.
NC A&T played good defense with a lot of effort.
Refs refused to call fouls on NC A&T defenders that contact Merrill for some unknown reason.
It is clear that Bean and Anderson are a great duo. :thanks:

Did you watch the game or is this an analysis based on stats?

I’ve always thought Brito was better than Porter, but I still like him coming off the bench. It’s a good strategy, like Lou Williams coming off the bench and also closing games.

I think what is making us great is the fact that there are no selfish players on the team. The majority of Justin’s points come from awesome passes by Sam and Porter. This team is fun to watch.

I like Abel a lot, but I still think it was a mistake not to bring in an athletic grad transfer PG just as a change of pace. We lost Ainge, JK3, T. Knight, RayQuan Evans to a decommit and replaced them with zero PGs. We have a glut in the post and really could have used Stall’s/Groot’s scholarships for a PG (not that they aren’t great teammates).

The takeaway here, IMO, is that we don't need to rely on just one guy at any position. Porter has an off night, Miller and Brito combine for 9 assists. Kuba and Dorius only see 20 minutes combined, Bean and Andersen take care of business. Sam scores half his season average, Bean and Andersen both score career highs. 5 players with at least 6 rebounds, 5 players with at least 3 assists.

And that's still without our NBA draftee playing yet.

We're going to be just fine.

EDIT: I'll further add that Porter had a 10 point 10 assist double double two games ago, and had more turnovers tonight than the rest of the season combined. I don't think you need to begin to write him off for one bad showing.

It's nice to have so many weapons and options. Merrill and Porter with probably their least productive games, respectively, this season...and other guys step up to not skip a beat. Once we get Queta back...hoo boy look out, we'll have so many weapons on both ends of the floor, all of Kuba's fumbled passes that led to turnovers are instead ram dunks. I can't wait for the next month of play.

Dorius definitely shown real potential at center.
We might consider starting Dorius at center.

Kuba’s and Trevin’s teammates need to stop giving them bounce passes at their knees. We need to work on the lob a bit more off of the pick and roll.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Bean will be first team all MWC by the time he graduates. Love his game.

They need to throw the ball up to kuba instead of throwing it at his knees. Bean is turning into an absolute stud, him Anderson play really well with each other.

^^^^ tough for a 7’-2” dude to pick up a bounce pass at the knees/ankles in traffic

It's a mistake to not play Merrill more often at PG. Slow the game down, control the game when he's playing. Let Brito play the SG spot. And/or let Bairstow play with Merrill.

I like Porter generally, but for this team to be able to counter the athleticism of a lot of opponents not only do we need Queta to return, we also need to be willing to change our style where necessary and also develop Merrill as a ball handler.

I was a little disappointed that Bairstow didn't see any time until the very end. The kid can play. I like Kuba's game/potential over Dorius but Dorius is much better than I expected.

Yeah he is. He seems more confident, more aggressive. And for his limited time, he took advantage of it. He played 8 minutes, got 7 point, 6 rebounds and a block.
