Re: MWC top 5 defenders
Interesting that the returning MWC “defensive player if the year” is not found on this list, but 3 of his team mates are. Wow...we must be pretty good defensively.BigBlueDart wrote: ↑August 8th, 2019, 11:46 amHere's the link:

It is ridiculous that Queta is not listed here.

They are only comparing guards and wings.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑August 8th, 2019, 1:12 pmInteresting that the returning MWC “defensive player if the year” is not found on this list, but 3 of his team mates are. Re: MWC top 5 defenders
I was thinking the exact same thing as mcaggie. I must have missed that it was only guards and wings. I guess I didn't read the intro. Still, I was a bit surprised to see Brito on the top of the list. Maybe I need to be watching him more particularly on defense this season.

Re: MWC top 5 defenders
Sorry, I didn't pick up the fact that it was guards and wings. If that is what it is.......why are forwards and centers excluded? Seems a little lame to me. Without looking at the other categories, I am guessing that the best shooters are also only guards and wings, and not bigs.

Re: MWC top 5 defenders
Because they are doing top 5 lists for five different categories and one of the other categories is "Shot Blockers". They felt it was redundant to have those that made the top 5 shot blockers list to also appear on the top defenders list so they were eliminated from consideration for this list.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑August 8th, 2019, 2:55 pmSorry, I didn't pick up the fact that it was guards and wings. Re: MWC top 5 defenders
Yes, they are. So like I said, who here is writing these articles?
Not really asking that of course. Just surprised to see folks talking about our players outside Merrill and Queta.

Re: MWC top 5 defenders
They cite some good advanced stats to back up the claim.bpd wrote:Justin Bean is neither a wing or one of the top defenders. I like him, but that is a huge stretch.

Re: MWC top 5 defenders
What's your basis for that? Bean's DRtg last season was truly elite: 91.3 -- 4.2 pp100 better than Diogo and 8.0 pp100 better than Merrill and would have been 3rd best in the entire conference if he had enough minutes to qualify. His Defensive Box Plus/Minus of 4.3 would have been 4th best in the entire conference; his DRB% would have been top 10 in the conference; and his STL% would have led the entire conference if he had the minutes to qualify. But sounds like a "huge stretch" to suggest he is one of the league's top defenders. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Bean is our Dennis Rodman.

Re: MWC top 5 defenders
Agreed 100%. Also the article states that they focused on guards and wings. Sounded like a little wiggle room.ChicAggie wrote: ↑August 9th, 2019, 8:41 amWhat's your basis for that? Re: MWC top 5 defenders
My basis is watching film. He is excellent at rebounding, steals, and blocks from the weakside. What he is not good at is staying in front of his man on the perimeter. This is masked by good help side D and Queta.ChicAggie wrote: ↑August 9th, 2019, 8:41 amWhat's your basis for that?
